Box and Whiskers Matching

(0)
This activity is all about matching a data set to its 5 number summary and box-and-whiskers plot. Students are given 7 sets of data and have to find the 5 number summary and plot that match it. Matching is a great way to have students analyze a bunch of data at one time and look for similarities and differences. Our students love all matching activities we do and as teachers we feel they get a great deal out of doing them!

Exponential Translations Matching - Vertical and Horizontal Translations

(0)
This matching activity requires students to match translated functions with their movements (in words and translation notation). The answer key is in order to it is easy to check student answers with your own copy. This is a great activity for confirming student knowledge as they must sort through a great deal of data and find matches. We were purposeful in making sure that students couldn't just match numbers but have to know the actual translations. Please check out some of our other activities! Clue! Systems of Equations - Graphing, Substitution, Linear Combination, Word Problems

(0)
This is a 4 clue practice based off the popular board game. Students will work through 4 clues to find the suspect, an accomplice, weapon and location. Students will use knowledge of solving systems of linear functions using three methods; substitution, linear combination (or addition) and graphing. Students will also use linear combination to solve four word problems. Students are given a cipher to turn their number answers into letters. Cut out both circles and spin the numbers to match the appropriate letter. Students are also provided a score sheet, just like the game, so they can mark off their final answer. Have them turn in their answers and work to see if they've found all the right information! Answer key included!

Converting Between Radians and Degrees Scavenger Hunt (CCSS.HSF.TF.A)

(0)
Students will be required to convert radians to degrees or degrees to radians. Students will start at any poster they want, solve the question and look for the answer around the room. If done correctly, students will end up back at the same poster. This is a great practice and review as it promotes self-checking and understanding of the content. We have only had success with scavenger hunts in our classroom.

Exponents Relay Race Review

(0)
This review is for exponents. The review includes multiplying exponents, dividing exponents, power of zero and negative exponents. The practice problems include variable and coefficients. A power point slide with directions on how to play the relay race game is attached. These directions are very common but you can play in whatever way you'd like. Also attached are questions to cut out and an answer sheet for each student.

Probability and Central Tendencies Relay Race Review

(0)
One of the biggest internal debates teachers have are review games. We want to make reviews interesting and engaging yet rich and meaningful in regards to content. We have found no better way to combine these two qualities than with a relay race. The relay race requires students to do a large amount of work but also get out of their seats, interact with others and enjoy a friendly competition. This relay race review is focused on probability and central tendencies. Topics covered include; probability, complementary events, complementary probability, mean, median mode, stem and leaf plots, tables and box and whisker plots. This is a great activity for your pre-algebra or algebra 1 students.
Translations, Reflections and Dilations Think Tank

Translations, Reflections and Dilations Think Tank

(0)
A think tank is a questioning activity created from Bloom's taxonomy. Each questions, starting from the top, becomes more complicated and involved. The think tank we've created here is all about quadratic reflections, translations and dilations. Students are required to use their knowledge of all three to answer 8 questions of progressively challenging questions. This think tank would be great as a homework assignment, test/quiz review, independent/group classwork or even an assessment. After answering the 8 questions students will have clearly demonstrated a solid understanding of Translations, Reflections and Dilations.

Systems of Equations Matching

(0)
Our matching activities have been our biggest hit! This activity is requires students to match the system of equations with their graphs and solutions. There are 8 total sets; 4 systems requiring substitution and 4 using linear combination (elimination). Our students, as always, have greatly enjoyed this matching activity. We love matching because it requires students to take a large amount of data and identify characteristics, patterns and solutions.
nth Roots Scavenger Hunt

nth Roots Scavenger Hunt

(0)
This is a scavenger hunt that focuses on students ability to simplify nth roots. All numerators in this activity are 1. We love these activities because they let students work independently and assess their own work. This gives them ownership of their work, which they love. We have had nothing but success using scavenger hunts in our math classes! This is definitely one of our favorites!
Linear Modeling Activity (CCSS.HSF.LE.A.1)

Linear Modeling Activity (CCSS.HSF.LE.A.1)

(0)
This modeling and regression analysis activity introduces students to the topic with a hands on activity. Students learn the idea that data is not always perfectly linear and we create models to fit data and predict future information. We have used this activity as a group activity for self exploration and also for direct instruction. We have only had great success with this lesson.
Periodic Function Characteristics Scavenger Hunt - Midline, Period, and Amp.

Periodic Function Characteristics Scavenger Hunt - Midline, Period, and Amp.

(0)
This scavenger hunt requires students to use knowledge of midline, period, amplitude and y-intercepts to characterize different sine and cosine functions and their graphs. Students start at any poster, answer the question, and find the answer on another poster around the room. If done correctly, they will end up back at the same poster. This is a great activity to have students self-check their knowledge. Converting Between Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions Scavenger Hunt

(0)
This scavenger hunt has students convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions. During the scavenger hunt, students start at any poster and convert the question to the other form. Students then look around the room for their answer. Once they've found the answer they solve the question on that poster. If done correctly, they will end up back at the same poster. This is a great review or practice activity for students. It is self-checking so students can get immediate feedback about their performance, which they love! Quadratic Function - Murder Mystery

(0)
A fantastic murder mystery to help your investigators practice their quadratic function skills. Students are given a scenario in which they will help investigators solve a murder. Five clues have been left behind to help them figure out the perp. Knowledge of solving quadratic functions, discriminant, substitution and word problems will all be necessary to catch the killer! This is a great activity for classwork, assessment, homework or stations. It is very flexible!
