This resource (originally written for EDUQAS) contains 10 pieces of film music. All questions are based on past paper questions. As it is based on EDUQAS, there are 12 marks per piece (WJEC awards 9 marks per question), however it has the benefit of extending the higher achievers. WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME POSITION THIS YEAR OF ONLY HAVING 2 PAST PAPERS ON WHICH TO BASE OUR EVIDENCE FOR CENTRE ASSESSED GRADES. This resource will help your judgements, certainly in Area of Study 3. WJEC A Level Music Sondheim SAMS Musical Theatre - Sweeney Todd

(0)
This resource gives an overview of the work of Sondheim. It discusses his characteristic musical style, with recommended works to focus on. Additionally there are 4 SAMS, based on the type of questions that students will come across in their exam. A great deal of research has gone into creating these questions. Answers are provided at the end of the booklet, although these answers are by no means exhaustive. I know that all of the expert teachers out there will no doubt find extra answers to some of the questions I have set. Pieces include: The Ballad of Sweeney Todd Poor Thing These Are My Friends Green Finch and Linnet Bird Screenshots included of extra musical extracts, for teaching purposes, if required.

Snowpiercer and A study of Minimalism in Music

(0)
Snowpiercer - a study of Minimalism. Lots of Year 9 pupils might be watching Snowpiercer on Netflix even though it’s a 15+. Knowing the series, the title of the learning scheme may pique their interest!! It is suitable in terms of ability for Years 8 and 9 I think. All of this work can be used for remote learning, tweaked in the way you want (telling them where to upload their work etc) and focuses on: listening and analysing minimalist music performing a minimalist piece (Metamorphosis) on Chrome Music Lab shared piano (in 4s or 2s), Arranging a piece of minimalism on Chrome Music Lab (in collaboration - I have started 2 pieces for them), Composing their own train themes, Fact files and Further listening. No need for any other music platforms apart from Chrome Music Lab. All free as long as pupils have a computer! It does not just focus on Snowpiercer. as there is work in there by other composers, but the title is aimed at pupil engagement in these difficult times.
