KS3 Sci Safety lesson - SEN

(0)
Straightforward safety lesson which would be great for a lower ability class. Quick discussion on safety scenarios they can then go around the room collecting information about the different hazard symbols (print off and put stick around the room). At the end of the ppt there is a more advanced version (longer sentences) that could be used fore a more able group. Lab safety if from an old spotlight science book - you could swap with whatever scheme you use.

Edexcel structure and bonding revision higher

(0)
A great little review lesson for this topic. Helpful if you have the standard combined science textbook for one of the tasks. Includes starter. main tasks and plenary. State the 4 bonding model types Describe their properties Explain their properties Deduce unknown substances from their data Evaluate the pro’s and cons of the way the models are represented

Edexcel Metallic Bonding Task

(0)
Basic research task where students can answer 6 questions about metal properties and metallic bonding and adding it to a cube “net” to make their own revision cube. Good Friday afternoon task! Use either the internet or textbooks to find the answers to the questions.

Lesson covering the properties of the maon allotropes of carbon - linked to the Pearson combined science textbook “cc7b”, but it could be easily adapted to whatever textbook you have. Includes starters, video links main activities linked to the textbook and exam practice at the end. Plenty to keep them busy! Success criteria Describe what a giant covalent structure is State what an allotrope is State some uses for diamond and graphite Describe the properties of diamond, graphite, graphene and C60 (fullerenes) Explain why diamond and carbon have these properties using correct scientific language.

Edexcel large covalent compounds practical Gd1-5

(0)
Straightforward practical where you can use “waxy” acids available in many school labs e.g steric acid to find out there melting points and compare them to their carbon chain length. In this practical I use lauric, steric ans palmitic acid tn this practical, You must carry out your OWN risk assessment before using with pupils. “Active learn” sheet cc7a sheet is handy for this but not essential
