A 3 part lesson sequence on making better conclusions is suggested and a lesson provided for the 3rd lesson in the sequence - making your own conclusion on whether global warming is supported by evidence.

These are a series of dingbats that I have created as engaging starter activities. They work really well as a short punchy starter that students answer on whiteboards before the 4 minute song finishes that students hear as they walk in (e.g. Bon Jovi, Olly Murs). The words are keywords that are referred back to in lesson. There are dingbats for KS3, KS4 and KS5 on these topics: photosynthesis, respiration, compounds, hydrocarbons and carbonyls (A level). This is an action packed lesson on polymerisation. The starter is a dingbat that is shown whilst students listen to music to help them. Part 1 is where students make ethene then link to make polythene using molymods. Part 2 is where students write down the formula of a polymer, write that on post its then stick it posters. Part 3 is where students design a cheese rolling suit using information about polymers. The plenary is a 6 mark question on their design that brings the lesson together. This is a differentiated worksheet created for lower school students in a topic on solutes, solvents and solutions. The units covered are grams, kilograms, millilitres and litres. Answers and calculation steps are provided.

This is one of a series of popular engaging science club activities for students that a colleague and I organise. This is a fire writing activity where students make and use a saturated sodium nitrate solution if they are able (HAZARDOUS). For weaker students this could be made in advance. They then paint this solution onto filter paper and dry it using a low temperature hairdryer and apply a glowing (not lit) splint. This is based on a RSC practical. This is a lesson plan that has been designed and taught to year 8 students. It is taught early in the rock cycle scheme of work and uses salol. Glass rods are dipped in the salol and drops are put on warm, room temperature and cooled (in freezer) glass slides. Crystal size is measured and compared. This model is used to make anologies with rock cooling in the real world. Feedback to my TES inbox please.

This a question sheet for students and an answer sheet for a YouTube video from The Fuse School on acid rain. The link to the video is in the worksheets. There is lots of differentiation for lower ability through the use of a wordbank and gap fill activities. Differentiation for higher ability is through use of chemical formulae, open questions and use of keywords such as 'enzyme' and 'combustion'. A loop game I created for a high ability Year 8 class

This document helps students and teachers track progress in A level chemistry (OCR A specification). It can easily be modified for any exam board or subject and would work well at KS4. Students record their progress on assessed homework and tests. There is space for teacher and student feedback.The 'medal&' and &';mission' comments are completed by the teacher. There is space to record intervention strategies for a particular module. For homework a percentage correct score is worked out and a grade given as follows: 60% = C, 70% = B, 80% = A. This is a set of resources that are used in metals lessons at KS3 and GCSE. The metal trump cards cover 12 metals including 3 alloys. The superplastic alloy has been included to challenge students. Each card lists key information such as elemental symbols, properties and metal uses. This is an engaging AS Chemistry lesson on the group 1 and 2 nitrate and carbonate decompositions and has grades C to A. The starter is fire writing using sodium nitrate solution. Please read CLEAPPS safety and Royal Society of Chemistry advice on this compound and the practical. For grade C students describe the reactions. For grade B students explain the decompositions and for grade A they evaluate their answers. An extra activity such a diamond 4 could be included for students to rank their answers. This is a lesson with grades D to B on molar gas volumes for AS Chemistry. The hook for the starter is to consider different types of fire extinguisher. Students then consider how they would calculate the volume of carbon dioxide produced from a CO2 extinguisher and 4 extinguishers that contain a solid that decomposes on heating to produce CO2.
