This is a comprehensive list of hundreds of relevant awareness days for a primary or secondary school. It maps the entire academic year and includes over 400 different dates and days. This is useful for pastoral leaders, PSHE leads, SLT or anyone that is putting together an assembly rota, bulletin, calendar or diary for the academic year starting September 2023. It includes cultural, religious, personal, health and social awareness days and has been triple checked for accuracy. I have pulled together all of the dates so you won’t find a more comprehensive diary anywhere. This will be a document that is updated as more dates are added next year or there are any changes. It brings together all of the useful special days for schools to focus on as part of their PSHE, Citizenship, Fundamental British Values, SMSC, Healthy Schools, Character Education, Finance Education, Religious Education and whole school ethos. This is a 15-20 minute assembly or tutor time PSHE session on keeping safe both walking to and from school, in the local community and online. It can be shortened or lengthened to be used for a whole lesson. It follows the Relationships, Sex & Health Curriculum introduced in 2020 and explains how students can keep safe. It was delivered to KS3, KS4 and KS5 with excellent feedback. The PowerPoint contains videos, discussion tasks but no written tasks. This is a 10-15 minute assembly on online abuse. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grades 6-12) and is great for an assembly or a tutor time PSHE or Personal Development session. It covers: Link to FIFAs online abuse campaign Definition of online abuse Actions that are considered abuse A short downloaded video clip about the 9 protected characteristics which will never disappear Reasons why online abuse is unacceptable What students should do if they experience online abuse (change the logo to your local police force) A short downloaded video clip with a case study about how online abuse made a young person feel Points to remember Finishing slide It is a fully narrated assembly but this can easily be changed by deleting the icon on each slide. This presentation was as a result of online abuse happening within the school community and it was a very effective presentation for the whole school. This is a 10-20 minute assembly on the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022. It is specifically about this year’s commonwealth games and focuses on how it will change and has changed the city of Birmingham. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grades 6-12) as an assembly or tutor time session. It has no written activities just discussion tasks but this can easily be changed to make it last a whole lesson. It includes: Information about the Commonwealth Games What the Commonwealth is How has it affected the people of Birmingham Advantages and disadvantages of the Games How the city will be tranformed A debate about whether it is positive for the city How it connects to Fundamental British Values How it connects to the UN Rights of a Child Reflection and links for students to look at later and links to other news stories Pictures, logos, dual coding throughout 2 downloaded videos that will never disappear Students received this session well and it was originally a whole school resource for a tutor time Citizenship session. This is a 15-30 minute tutor time session celebrating deaf awareness week. However, it can also be used for deaf awareness at any time of the year. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Years 7-13, Ages 11-18, Grade 6-12). It was originally a Citizenship session for the whole school. It includes: Information about deaf awareness week Information about how many deaf people there are in the UK Information about the devices people use A downloaded and clipped video which will never disappear about what ‘deaf’ means How we can support those in the deaf community What British Sign Language is and why it is important Activity and infographic getting students to sign their own name A connection to Fundamental British Values, UN Rights of a Child and a Reflection task Other links to watch the news There are discussion and activities throughout but this could easily be changed into written tasks to last a whole lesson if required. It includes dual coding and logos throughout. This presentation was well received by all year groups and many have gone on to learn BSL as a result. This is a 15-20 minute assembly about emergency first aid. It covers how to perform CPR and stop heavy bleeding. This is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grade 6-12) and can be used as a tutor time session, PSHE or Citizenship lesson or Health whole school assembly. It fits into the new RSE and Health Curriculum of 2020 but can be used for other purposes to teach people these important life saving skills. It includes: What CPR is How to perform CPR How to stop bleeding when someone is bleeding heavily What a defribrillator is Infographics to remind students of first aid Dual coding and discussion task This does not include any written activities but ends in a discussion task about whether you should give anyone who needs it CPR. There may be BBC links in that only work in the UK. This was originally used for a Year 11 PSHE tutor time session about emergency first aid after an introduction to CPR earlier in the year and in school. This is a 10-15 minute assembly for Epilepsy Awareness Day in March 2022. It can also be easily adapted to be used at any other time of the year to raise awarness of epilepsy in your school. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grades 6-12) and has been used as a whole school assembly. It fits in to the new RSE and Health Curriculum of 2020 and also can be used for PSHE, Citizenship, SMSC or Whole School resource to get students to have a greater awareness and understanding of epilepsy.

This is a 15-20 minute assembly about positive language. It covers the important topic of being positive, watching what language we use to communicate to others and using positive language online. It was used as an assembly for KS3, KS4 & KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, Grades 6-12). It covers: Why it is so important to show positive language in school The power of words Important quotes and two downloaded videos that will never disappear How we can show positive language What situations we need to show positive language How we can support cyberbullying Code of conduct Reflection slide with thinking questions and positive quotes There is a slide for you to add your Pupil Code of Conduct or behaviour policy or you can delete this slide if you prefer. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Grades 6-12, Years 7-13) and can be used as an assembly, a PSHE or Citizenship tutor time session or is easily lengthened to last a whole lesson. his is a 10-15 minute assembly about vaccinations. It is not specifically about Covid 19 vaccinations but more about vaccinations in childhood and in general. However, it could easily be used to cover Covid-19 vaccinations as well. It is suitable for KS3-KS4 (Ages 11-18, Grades 6-13, Years 7-13) and was originally a year 9 tutor time PSHE session. It focuses on the key question, Why is getting vaccinated so important for public health? It covers: What vaccines are and why they are important 3 short downloaded videos that will never disappear about: WHO immunisation for all programme A world without vaccines How vaccines work It ends with a plenary discussion task There are no written activities just information and discussion. This is a 10-15 minute assembly about National Careers Week 2022. It can easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson because of the links on the last slide for further activities. It is suitable for the whole school (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13, KS3-KS4-KS5) and is a useful way to advertise careers education in your school and give students the necessary links to research further. This is a 15 minute tutor time PSHE session about budgeting. It was originally designed for a Year 7 PSHE tutor time session but it can be used as an assembly or easily lengthened for a whole lesson. It is suitable for Ages 11-16 (Years 7-11, KS3-KS4, Grades 6-10).
