Casas (Houses) y Departamentos de México Internet Activity
In this activity, your students will play the role of an international real estate agent trying to locate homes and apartments in Mexico for several clients.
They will use a popular website (in Spanish) to search for houses and apartments that fit their clients lifestyles and preferences. Then, after recording some information about each of the homes they research, they will decide which one will be best and explain why (in Spanish).
This is a fun activity that uses real life skills that students will need. It also aligns with the ACTFL progress indicators for both Interpretive Reading and Presentational Writing. This activity can be done in class or assigned for homework. It will work perfectly for a day you have a substitute as well!

"Inténtalo" & Possessive Adjectives
These activities go along with the song "Inténtalo" by 3Ball MTY (pronounced Tribal Monterrey) which is readily available on YouTube and iTunes. In this activity, students listen to the song and complete the missing lyrics. Then, they are asked to locate certain lines of the song, copy them, and manipulate them. The manipulation of the lyrics requires them to use possessive adjectives (mi, tu, su, etc). Students will practice listening, reading, and writing in this lesson.

"Tu Angelito" & The Present Tense of SER, TENER & Description
This activity goes along with the song "Tu Angelito" by Chino y Nacho which is readily available on YouTube and iTunes. In this activity, students listen to the song and complete the missing lyrics. Once they are familiar with the song, they complete a scavenger hunt in which they search the lyrics for forms of SER, TENER, and various other items. There is also an additional activity where they are asked to locate specific lines from the song and manipulate them using what they know about the verbs SER, TENER, and adjective agreement.

"El Perdón" & Demonstrative Adjectives and Pronouns
These activities are meant to help students learn how to use demonstrative adjectives and pronouns in Spanish.
These activities go along with the song "El Perdón" by Nicky Jam and featuring Enrique Iglesias. This song is readily available on YouTube and iTunes and a link to the song is referenced.
After reviewing a brief biography of both artists, students are asked to listen to the song several times and fill in the lyrics that have been removed. Then, students are given an overview of the concept of demonstrative adjectives and pronouns and asked to locate and observe their use in the lyrics of the song. Students then are asked to find and copy certain vocabulary words used within the song. Students then apply their new understanding of demonstrative adjectives to produce the requested phrases in Spanish.

In this activity, students access the website for the Hotel Plaza Florencia in Mexico City and the Hotel San Francisco Plaza in Guadalajara. They will navigate the sites, in Spanish, and demonstrate their ability to find and understand basic information by completing the activities. This is a great real life activity that allows students to use problem solving skill and reading strategies.
Silly Spanish Sentence Writing Activity - Preterite Tense Irregular Verbs
Silly Spanish Sentence Activities are a great way to motivate students and spice up your typical boring grammar drills while building vocabulary.
These activities promote both interpretive reading and presentational writing skills. They provide a structure that will help struggling students while at same time allowing more advanced students to add details according to their abilities. This type of self-differentiation is very helpful in classes where students are at a variety of stages in their fluency and language acquisition.
Students will choose 1 word each from a series of word boxes with the goal of creating funny sentences. They will need to apply grammatical concepts like conjugation and sentence structure while at the same time recognizing key vocabulary items. When they have created 10 sentences, they will choose a favorite and write it on the tear-off section of the activity.

This sequential 4 activity sets focuses on introducing students to the difference in usage between the Spanish verbs SER and ESTAR (to be).
This product includes the following activities;
1. Concept Attainment Activity - students cut and paste Spanish sentences onto cards explaining the different reasons for the usage of SER and ESTAR.
2. Read, Conjugate, Draw Activity - Students fill in blank sentences with correct forms of the verbs SER & ESTAR, then illustrate the meaning of each sentence to demonstrate comprehension.
3. Side-by-Side Writing Prompt - Students will read a brief story in Spanish about a boy named Pablo who has an evil twin (weird, I know, but they love this stuff). Using the original story as a model, they will change the information to talk about the evil twin and invent his character in Spanish.
4. Open-Ended Writing Prompts - This activity uses two visual images for support as students apply the knowledge they have gained to write their own paragraphs using the verbs SER and ESTAR appropriately.

These activities are meant to help students learn the names and locations of Spanish-speaking countries.
These activities go along with the song "La Gozadera" by Gente de Zona and featuring Marc Anthony. This song is readily available on YouTube and iTunes and a link to the song is referenced.
First students will complete a pre-viewing activity which will ask them to recall the names of Spanish-speaking countries with some supports. Following that, students will read a short biography, in Spanish, of the group Gente de Zona. After viewing the video, they will begin completing the cloze activity which focuses on their interpretive listening skills and ability to hear the names of Spanish-speaking countries within the song. Finally, students will take a closer look at the lyrics of the song and complete a map activity and respond to some culture questions that ask them to think about what it means to be Latino or Latin American.

Spanish Proficiency or Placement Test: Novice-Mid
I developed this assessment as a tool for gathering data as to student's proficiency levels during their first and second years of language study in Spanish. This assessment is directly aligned with the ACTFL progress indicators for Novice-Mid fluency. This assessment addresses all skill areas; Interpersonal Speaking, Presentational Speaking, Presentational Writing, Interpretive Listening, and Interpretive Reading.
This assessment can be used in a variety of ways:
1. As an exit test or final exam for Spanish 1
2. As an entrance exam for Spanish 2
3. As a placement exam for students newly entering your language program from private or out of state institutions
4. As a progress indicator given to students at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year to demonstrate growth
5. As smaller, individual assessments given throughout the course of the school year

Spanish Future Tense & Technology
In this activity, students are given 10 different situations that involve common things that can go wrong with technology (dead cell phones, broken printers, lost passwords, etc) and are asked to tell what they will or will not do next using the Future Tense.
This is a fun way to get students writing about something they are interested in while relating it to everyday problems.
Prepositional Phrase Map Activity
This activity will assist you in helping students to practice prepositional phrases (lejos de, cerca de, a la derecha de, etc) as well as directional phrases (al norte de, al sur de, al oeste de, etc.).
Students will use a map of Chapultepec Park in Mexico City to complete the accompanying activities. The first activity requires students to complete sentences with the correct directional phrase. The second activity requires them to give directions to a nearby place on the map in Spanish.
