Averages! (MMMR, From stem and leaf, From frequency tables, Comparing data)

Everything you need to teach finding averages in KS3 and 4! Here are some of my favourite lessons for teaching finding and comparing averages. This is including finding and comparing mode, median, mean and range from a list of data, from a stem and leaf diagram and from a frequency table! All lessons contain: 5 a day starter, learning objectives with progress tick sheet, Fully animated and clear examples, Differentiated, colour-coordinated questions WITH answers. Lesson 1: Mode, Median, Mean and range. Explanation and clear examples of finding each average. Includes individual questions to complete, as well as activities which can be used as extension challenges or paired work, such as odd one out and working backwards to find the numbers which gives you that average. Lesson 2: Stem and Leaf diagrams. Whole class introduction to creating and using Stem and Leaf diagrams using class info for everyone to be involved. Short exercise to ensure students can create stem and leaf diagrams correctly. Clear examples on how to find averages on the stem and leaf diagram with individual questions. Extension questions comparing averages from a dual stem and leaf diagram. Lesson 3: Averages from a frequency table. Clear, well paced examples for the whole class to go through, with time for students to work through one average before moving onto the next. Finishing with two individual frequency tables to ensure progress and full understanding. Worksheet included. Lesson 4: FREE BONUS LESSON! Comparing data. This is a lesson I found on TES and loved to finish off finding averages. I have adapted it slightly so feel free to do the same, but I couldn’t leave it off as I think its a great group work lesson to finish the topic, or even make display work from! Explanation of Primary and Secondary data, then given data from Olympians to compare to find who should be on the GB team. Great way for students to work together and practice answering questions with full sentences. These are all my favourite lessons from the averages topic and I hope you enjoy them too! If you like them or think I could improve them in anyway, please rate or comment! Thanks =]

Inequalities! (Intro, Number lines, Solving, Graphs)

Inequalities! (Intro, Number lines, Solving, Graphs)

(0)
Everything you need to introduce inequalities, solve inequalities and draw and read graphs of inequalities! I used this set of lessons with a middle ability year 10 class working on the higher GCSE, but the first lessons are definitely usable for all of KS3 and 4. Lessons are ready to go! All lessons include a 5 a day starter and progress tick sheet with differentiated questions and answers included! Lesson 1: Introduction into inequalities! This lesson goes over terminology and symbols of inequalities, as well as how to represent inequalities on number lines. This is a lesson I really enjoy teaching as there are many fun whole class activities to do, which branch off for 5min individual activities to solidify the new skills being taught. I have also uploaded a worksheet needed for the activities and a CARD SORT for an extension task, which have the answers on the PPT. Lesson 2: Solving Inequalities! Introducing how to solve inequalities, in the same method as solving equations. This lesson goes up to solving two step equations, but the next two lessons can be added onto this depending on the ability of your students. Lesson 3: Solving Inequalities! Starts with a recap on how to solve equations with unknowns on both sides. I decided to just touch on more advanced equations as I wanted my students to focus on inequalities with unknowns on both sides. I have also used some of the same two step equations from last lesson for those students who need more time to consolidate their knowledge. Lesson 4: Solving inequalities! This lesson focuses on when there are two constraints on the inequality. As I said previously, lessons 2-4 can be put together depending on the ability of your students. The questions used are extensions of the previous lessons so they can carry on from one another seamlessly. Lesson 5: Inequalities on graphs! Starts with a recap on drawing horizontal and vertical lines, as well as diagonal lines on a graph, however, this can be taken out if your students don’t need it. It then goes through, step by step, how to draw and read inequalities from a graph with animations on each step. Worksheets are also uploaded and answers are also included on the PPT. I hope that this bundle of lessons helps you and saves you some time! If you like my lessons or think there is something more I can do, please rate or comment! I really enjoy these lessons and hope you do too! Thanks! =]
