Quick Lesson POETRY - Roger McGough "The Lake"
Need a quick lesson? Look no further. A whole lesson based around Roger McGough's "The Lake" - I know it can be found online elsewhere, but I include it here for convenience's sake. Perfect for when you need to fill that irritating cover lesson with something meaningful.

KS3: Woman In Black: Creative Writing focus
Taught as part of a two teacher approach to a top set year 9 class. I focused on developing creative writing skills, with a particular emphasis on the structural components, whilst my partner teacher focused on the more traditional literature style approach.
The Woman In Black was used as the stimulus for all elements of this unit and the climax is a GCSE English Language Paper 1 style task (not included in this pack as it is part of my school’s assessment pack).
Overall, I found this unit to be really useful in challenging students to think about their creative writing in more than just a reactionary way. The nature of the structure focused questions align with my belief that it is always better to teach the Language Paper 1 Q3 question in the form of a structure-focused creative writing commentary at KS3 level. Hopefully this will provide you with a useful starting point for your own creative writing journey.

KS4: Creative Writing inspired by Saving Private Ryan
Material I generated for the old AQA style creative writing controlled assessments - it still resonates with the new AQA Paper 1 Section B style questions (inspired by images). You'll need a copy of the film and you'll need to alter the Learning Outcomes (they are all set against the old AQA English Language Coursework criteria).

KS3: Creative Writing (linked to A Midsummer Night's Dream)
After teaching content related to AMND, we had changed direction and ended up doing some creative writing. These lessons build on some top end creative skills.

AQA A-Level English Language and Literature: Othello - Lesson 1
A reintroduction lesson that should be taught with the understanding that the students have read the text beforehand. Designed as an entry point into year 13; ideal for new teachers looking to get the measure of a new class (as in my case).
I found this lesson particularly useful when combined with FAR marking the material surrounding the quotations.
You should view this as a starting point - future lessons will get much more specific.

AQA English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exam - My Polish Teacher's Tie
I've found another use for all that knowledge we have about the old AQA English Lit anthology (The Sunlight on The Grass anthology). I have started to turn them into English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exams!
This is one of them. There is no mark scheme, but if you use the Paper 1 mark scheme from the AQA website you should be fine.
This one uses the opening of My Polish Teacher's Tie.

I’ve found another use for all that knowledge we have about the old AQA English Lit anthology (The Sunlight on The Grass anthology). I have started to turn them into English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exams!
This is one of them. There is no mark scheme, but if you use the Paper 1 mark scheme from the AQA website you should be fine.
This one uses the start of The Darkness Out There. The focus here is very much on the use of setting.
UPDATE: I’ve included some rudimentary answers. You’ll still need a copy of the mark scheme.

AQA English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exam - When The Wasps Drowned
I've found another use for all that knowledge we have about the old AQA English Lit anthology (The Sunlight on The Grass anthology). I have started to turn them into English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exams!
This is one of them. There is no mark scheme, but if you use the Paper 1 mark scheme from the AQA website you should be fine.
This one uses a section from When The Wasps Drowned - it's not the start bit, but if you think about it, it doesn't really need to be.

AQA English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exam - 100% Perfect Girl
I've found another use for all that knowledge we have about the old AQA English Lit anthology (The Sunlight on The Grass anthology). I have started to turn them into English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exams!
This is one of them. There is no mark scheme, but if you use the Paper 1 mark scheme from the AQA website you should be fine.
This one uses the start of On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning. I've taken one paragraph out but don't worry, it doesn't take away from the creepiness of the narrative voice.

This one uses the start of Anil. As a pause for though, you may wish to consider renaming the character of Anil. Think about it...

Universal Key Stage 3 English Spreadsheet
A simple spreadsheet that is designed to track the progress of an entire KS3 cohort from Year 7 to the end of Year 9.
I have LOCKED each of the TABS of the spreadsheet using the NAME OF THE TAB itself (minus the spaces and as it appears with capital letters and numbers). This will stop any of the codes being deleted accidentally.
Hope this saves people some time.

Creative Writing: Experimental poetic forms
I enjoy teaching this lesson in and around poetry units of work. Essentially, it demonstrates three different approaches to creating poetry, culminating in the students creating their own Shakespearean Sonnets (you'll struggle to get this done in a single lesson - I designed this for a double period).
You'll need the following to complete this lesson:
2 different coloured paper types
Glue
Scissors
The students to have prior knowledge of the Shakespearean Sonnet Form
Enjoy.

AQA English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exam - Compass and Torch
I've found another use for all that knowledge we have about the old AQA English Lit anthology (The Sunlight on The Grass anthology). I have started to turn them into English Language Paper 1 Section A Mock Exams!
This is one of them. There is no mark scheme, but if you use the Paper 1 mark scheme from the AQA website you should be fine.
This one uses sections from Compass and Torch - I've stitched together two sections and omitted the bit about the horses (for those who remember) so that the extract focuses only on the relationship between the boy and the man.

AQA English Language and Literature A-Level: Foregrounding Heaney
A few elements of my class really struggled with this concept. So, I’ve broken it down into a step by step guide. The class will each need a copy of the AQA Poetry Anthology for this. It focuses on Follower first and then sets them up for an academic tilt at a comparative response.
I’ve had a good response from the elements of the class that initially struggled too.

KS4: Room 202 Speaking and Listening Presentations, Debates and Discussions
3 Lessons taken from the old(er) version of the AQA English Language specification (the one where S&L counted towards the grades).
I know it counts for nothing now, but it still needs to be done. These three lessons prepare a class to give a presentation OR take part in a discussion about a selected item they would save from the imaginatively named Room 202.
Enjoy.

Year 9 Preparation for GCSE Scheme of Work: Writing from around the world
A resource dump for my first attempt at preparing a middle set year 9 class for the rigours of the new GCSE - some success, but the class dynamic was more of a problem than the lesson resources themselves. Some editing may be required, but if you are wondering about how to approach the Section B parts of the exams, this covers a lot of bases.
