Welcome to Sentence Centre here you will meet the four different sentence types children need to know and use in year 2 SPaG. The sentences are presented as characters who talk about the properties of their sentence type. Included are two follow on activities that children can do at their tables to demonstrate their understanding.

Night Night Nine is the ninth character from Numberland. They are a moon that only comes out at night with their nine shiny stars. The activity included reinforces 1 to 1 count and matches quantity to Numicon shapes as well as numerals. Also included is a video, poster, planning with follow on activity and a letter to parents.

Super Seven is the seventh character from Numberland. Numberland supports children with early number recognition by using colourful characters with alliterative names. each character has their own song which reinforces the number name. Super Seven is a super hero who likes to help the other Numberlanders. Included is a notebook file which includes his song and an activity which reinforces recognition of the previous Numberlanders, a video of Super Seven flying across a cityscape, a poster and a lesson plan with follow on activities and parents letter.

Ten Tickles is the tenth character from Numberland. He is a squid who has ten arms and two tenticles, he likes to tickle the other Numberlanders and hold them in place and create new numbers. Ten Tickles introduces children to place value. In this pack you receive a notebook file with activity and song and a video, in both of these you et a sneaky eek at the next five Letterlanders! Also included is a lesson plan with follow on activity and a letter to parents as well as a Ten Tickles poster

A notebook file which supports children to estimate how many things they see. Dinosaurs appear briefly on the screen before they disappear, children are instructed to estimate how many they thought they saw, before the dinosaurs reappear and can be counted accurately. The dinosaurs are arranged in regular formations to support children in early addition by grouping.

Meet all the graphemes for KS1 that make the unstressed schwa sound. They’re the Schwa family and they come from outer space. All the CEW for year 1 and year 2 with this phoneme in are included as well as spelling rules which apply from English appendix 1. The powerpoint is designed to be used across year groups depending on your phonics teaching. It contains at least a weeks worth of phonics teaching. Each character tells you about its grapheme and uses sounds spots to support reading and spelling. Once children are familiar with the family they can explore best bet rules and then apply their learning by using the dictated sentences also within the powerpoint. Two copies are included, one which uses my preferred font of Letterjoin and one with comic sans.

This is ideal as a starting point for initial research or used for a comprehension activity with the included travel review sheets. This activity supports children with the Key Stage one geography curriculum objectives for human and physical geographical features as well as capital cities and countries of the United Kingdom.
