OBJECTIVE OF THE LESSON: To describe what would the lives of children in Guatemala be like using the conditional tense. The lesson was designed for a Top set year 9 class but can be used for a Year 10/11 class. There is a video link and questions included. The video is a great way to get students hooked at the start of the lesson or it can be watched as a reward and summary at the end of the lesson. After the video, the lesson then focuses on key vocabulary to describe living conditions in Guatemala. Then a revision of the the conditional tense. This includes students conjugating verbs and focusing on irregulars in the conditional tense. This prepares students to complete the reading and translation activity (great prep for the new GCSE!) Students translate both into English and Spanish. There is a more challenging text included for the very able students. The PowerPoint includes answers for the translation and students can be awarded points for each correct sentence based on difficulty. I allowed students to work in groups of 4, but that can be flexible based on the type of class you have. NB: Further detail can be seen in the lesson plan included in the resources. I hope you enjoy using this resource! Gracias :)

Originally designed for Year 9 class, but can be used for high ability Year 8 and low ability year 10. Task: Read the text, underline the imperfect tense and circle the present tense. Then translate the text on the sheet. The task includes vocabulary used to describe what you do on the week/in free time. The text makes comparisons to what a person's grandparents did in their free time and what students do nowadays. The task is suitable for the technology topic as it includes useful phrases from the topic.
