We have developed this Common Core aligned complete Plant Unit with CLOSE Reading passages, research report, text dependent questions, and essential questions that contains everything needed to teach a rigorous unit on plants. Original CLOSE Reading nonfiction passages were created to help teach your students about plants. CLOSE reading instructions and an anchor chart are included to help you incorporate this skill into your teaching. There are text dependent questions aligned with each passage, a set of vocabulary cards with definitions to accompany each nonfiction text, a research report Common Core Essential Questions, performance tasks, and RAFTS. A variety of other graphic organizers and activities are included. This unit emphasizes "Depth of Knowledge" (D.O.K.) throughout.
We do encourage you to supplement with any other books, videos, and websites that you already use; they will blend nicely with our CLOSE reading passages. You can use this unit in its entirety, or “pick and choose” the components to meet the needs of your students.

Nervous System Lab Bundle : This 5 in 1 Nervous System Lab Package combines 5 labs that can be used in a Nervous System unit into 1 product. These labs are very flexible and will work for any level student from English Learner - EL - to more advanced students. The Stimulus – Response Performance Lab uses only a meter stick to give students a practical hands on experience. It will take the student through four different stimulus response scenarios and has discussion questions to encourage deeper understanding. This lab usually needs 1 day to complete depending on your level of student. The Brain Observation Lab uses a sheep brain to give students a real world concrete experience. This product includes a materials list, a complete lab, and grading guidelines. It will take the student through the parts of the brain, interesting features of the brain; it includes a writing prompt and covers several brain diseases. This lab usually lasts from lasts from 2-3 days depending on your level of student. The Visual Tests and Experiments Lab covers many functional tests of human vision. This lab covers 10 different visual tests and experiments as well as other discussion questions. Some of the tests include, blind spot, visual acuity, after images, near point of accommodation, astigmatism, binocular vision, convergence reflex, and others. This product includes a complete lab with answer key, a blank answer sheet, a materials list with guidelines, and a Cognitive Content Dictionary with instructions. This lab usually lasts from lasts 2-3 class periods depending on your level of student. Houghton Mifflin 5th Grade Cloze Worksheet Full Year Bundle Themes 1-6 : This package contains Fifth Grade CLOZE (fill in the blank) worksheets to teach, re-teach, practice, or assess vocabulary in the fifth grade Houghton Mifflin anthologies from Themes 1- 6 (all themes for the entire year). You can use these report templates in their entirety, or “pick and choose” the questions that you wish to use and tailor them to your students’ needs.
