These activities reinforce understanding of the ‘Subject Specific Vocabulary’ required for the Hot Deserts Section of the AQA Syllabus. Students match the definitions , complete a cloze activity and then produce a definitions table. An answer sheet is also included. No further preparation necessary. Also included are complete A5 vocab sheets and a short slide answer ppt that can easily be added to existing presentations for easy self marking.

A glossary sheet that covers the subject specific vocabulary that is needed for the first section of the Changing Economic World Unit. Definitions are taken from the syllabus but have been simplified slightly where appropriate.
A complete lesson with plenty of supporting resources. This lesson looks at how people can adapt to the impacts of future climate change. It considers managing water supply, new agricultural methods, flood defences and artificial glaciers. Included is an active starter activity to engage the students immediately. Support activity sheets to summarise the key learning or support weaker students are also included . Differentiated exam questions are also included. The lesson makes reference to the Hodder or Oxford textbooks for the main activity as the exam board have specified the content, but other sources would work just as well. Separate main activities have been included depending on which text you have, simply choose the activity that fits your style or group.
Designed for the 9-1 AQA Geography Exam. A complete lesson based on the Thar Desert as a case study for the Opportunities and Challenges section. The lesson contains a video link that covers the case study in detail. This is supported by a scaffolded exam question which includes an answer sheet. The lesson combines a memorable case study with a structured assessment activity. The examiner reports identifies that students found applying specific information to this question was problematic for many and the scaffolded exam question addresses this issue. They all remember the golden rat!

A fully resourced lesson that covers the cause, effects and responses to a specific hurricane. Good to go and no additional resources required. Written for the AQA 9-1 GCSE Examination. Hurricane Haiyan makes a great up to date example. The Power-point has differentiated objectives linked to the new levels. The emphasis is on getting students to engage with the activities and demonstrate understanding. Resource sheets include differentiated activities and allow students to consolidate their learning. This can be completed as a single lesson with a straightforward case study template but with all the questions and resources there is plenty of material for 2 lessons and homework activities. The teacher copy of the example template can be used as a revision resource as it provides a concise summary of the content required.
A series of sheets that cover the subject specific vocabulary required for the first section of the Tectonics Hazards Unit. Ideal for slotting into existing lessons to ensure key vocabulary and terms are known and understood. Students are asked to match definitions, fill in gaps in a cloze exercise that puts the terms in context and complete a partially finished key terms table. Answer sheets are included but I have also added a powerpoint with completed answers on so that they can be checked quickly , saving time and ensuring misconceptions can be easily dealt with. No further resources required.

A fully resourced lesson that explores the DTM in an active way. Written specifically for the AQA GCSE 9-1 course and fully updated. The power-point covers the key definitions and includes video links. The main activity is a market place/carousel task in which the students move around the room collecting the information for each stage. The information sheets are in colour for high impact and would benefit from laminating to ensure they can be reused year after year. The syllabus refers to Nigeria but the pyramid is only just entering stage 3 so I have also included Brazil, as it shows the difference from stage 2 far more clearly. The information makes references to policies in Nigeria as it is used as a case study elsewhere in the course.

Update your case study for hurricanes. A collection of resources that cover the content required to for the AQA 9-1 GCSE. The distribution and development of tropical storms is investigated with a variety of activities to support students and then the case study is explored. Finally policies to reduce the effects of tropical storms are explored. Included are video links, support sheets and examination questions to allow for a variety of approaches. Power-points can be used as standalone lessons but the resources complement the new Oxford Textbook. A comprehensive Knowledge Organiser has been added meaning that no textbook is needed.
