This Crash Course Biology (2012) | #1 Carbon… SO SIMPLE YouTube video guide worksheet is meant to supplement the viewing of a free ~10 to 15 minute engaging video. This worksheet encourages a more thorough understanding of the complex interactions that govern chemical and biological systems.
Key Vocabulary: Identify terms such as “Covalent Bond,” “Ionic Bond,” and “Hydrogen Bond” from the vocabulary section, enhancing their grasp of essential chemistry vocabulary.
Chemical Bonds: Explore how carbon’s unique properties allow it to form a variety of bonds, shaping the molecular foundation of life.

This Hungry For Change (2012) Documentary Movie Guide in Spanish | Español | Health resource challenges students to digest the plethora of information presented in this health and diet documentary. Explore how monosodium glutamate (MSG), aspartame and high-fructose corn syrup affects (HFCS) the human body and how it is hidden throughout food items. Ask students to search their house or the grocery store and find food items that contain these harmful food additives.
Personal Note: This is another one of those health documentaries that all students should be exposed to since they probably won’t read about these issues in their traditional curriculum.

Explore Michael Pollan’s simple guidelines and rules. Discuss what governments should and shouldn’t do to help improve health. Ask students to summarize what they learn about red meat, breast milk, carbohydrate, glucose and omega-3/omega-6 fatty acids. Research how the soda taxes from 2015 that are mentioned in film have performed to date. Finally, debate and evaluate all of Pollan’s rules and rank them from easiest to hardest to follow.

Identify what allowed humans to improve their lives so much faster than other animals. Explore why fast and drastic changes in our collective consciousness are now possible. Discuss the environmental changes that have happened in Borneo, Palau and Costa Rica. Ask students to imagine what the Earth will be like when they are David’s age, if humanity takes no action and his grim predictions come true. Finally, chart the information that is displayed throughout the movie about the Earth’s population, atmospheric carbon and percentage of wilderness and draw conclusions from the data.
