Moorside High School is an 11-18 Staffordshire Moorlands school situated on the edge of Stoke on Trent.  

There are 820 students on role.

Through consultation with Governors, Parents, Pupils and Staff our School Values were agreed and these are embedded in REACH.

These values underpin the schools Behaviour and Rewards Systems and Policies. The Values are revisited, reinforced and discussed during form time, Personal, Social and Health education programmes of study and assemblies.  

At Moorside High School 

We expect students to engage with their learning and take advantage of all the opportunities for involvement, leadership and extra-curricular activity. We expect our teachers to have a passion for learning and for making lessons active and interesting.

We understand that students should have a broad and balanced education both to prepare them for life and work in the 21st century, and as a means to individual personal growth and fulfilment.  We offer a range of qualifications including GCSE, BTEC, and other vocational qualifications on the main site and a range of A level courses and combinations at our partnership sixth form with Painsley Catholic College.  

We seek to develop in our students the tolerance, respect for others and an active sense of right and wrong, which are the basis for a harmonious and effective school community, and a preparation for future citizenship.

In all of this, we value the unique contribution that the support and involvement of parents/carers make to the education of their child and to the life of the school as a whole.

Our vision is 

To provide a consistent, respectful, honest and enjoyable environment where pupils, through self-belief, can aspire to be the best they can be.  

In January 2017 Ofsted judged the school to be good.  We are an oversubscribed school with a mixed intake from across Staffordshire4 Moorlands and Stoke on Trent.  Our progress 8 score has been well above average for the last 4 years and our curriculum is both broad and balanced with a healthy mix of academic and vocational courses.  In 2018 83 % of our GCSE students studied the English Baccalaureate so there is plenty of academic rigour in our curriculum.

Ofsted Report 

Ofsted said “Teachers have high expectations of pupils and challenge them effectively in class to tackle the more difficult work presented to them.  Pupils say they enjoy being challenged and value the support they receive when they need it.” 

Every Child Matters is important to us and staff go the extra mile to support our young people to ensure any barrier to learning is overcome.  Personal development of our pupils is at the heart of what we do daily.  Our Pastoral care is good. 

Ofsted said “Students feel safe in school.  They behave well.  Students are proud of their school and enjoy acting as ambassadors for the school.” 

“Students have a range of choices to learn in and out of the classroom, including through after-school activities, visits and visitors.  They reflect the school’s academic desire to develop the students’ personal skills as well as their academic and vocational skills.  Students, from Year 7 to Year 11, are well informed about their career options.” 

Our sixth form provision is a collaboration with Painsley Sixth Form College.  However, we have recently become an Associate Member of The Potteries Educational Trust which includes Stoke Sixth Form and Biddulph High School, as well as Werrington Primary School.  We are therefore looking forward to further collaboration with these institutions to ensure our children receive a First Class Education from the age of 5 to the age of 18. 

We welcome and support all new staff into the school and we are always looking at ways in which we can develop our staff professionally, but also ensure that they get involved in the life of the school through extra-curricular activities or other enrichment activities.
