About Waterloo Lodge School

Waterloo Lodge offers a successful, therapeutic approach to re-engage pupils who’ve endured serious difficulties at their previous schools.

Pupils who secure a place at Waterloo Lodge make outstanding progress in a wide range of subjects across a broad curriculum, which captures pupils’ interest and offers excellent opportunities to learn.

Waterloo Lodge offers places to secondary pupils with social & emotional problems, ADHD, autism, and associated conditions.

Ofsted has acknowledged the school’s “well thought out” strategies for pupils to improve their behaviour, confidence and social skills as well as academic success.

The school’s 14-19 co-ordinator ensures pupils continue to succeed in college or work even after they’ve left Waterloo Lodge to ensure they can move on to a meaningful adult life.

What people say about us

At Waterloo Lodge we get to do so much fun things. We do have to work hard in lessons but we have bonus rewards, weekly activities and bigger trips to the cinema, wall climbing, skating and sometimes we get to go to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. We get to stay in Alton Towers at the end of the summer term and some of us get to go abroad. This year I’ve been nominated to go to Spain. I cannot wait for this.

- Pupil

I have just had a great placement at WLS and would definitely return if I was given the opportunity to do so.The staff were so welcoming and took me under their wing straight away. A lot of them are not just colleagues but friends too. This is evident in their warm and supportive relationships. There is a real team spirit in the workplace. The kids are amazing too. They model the behaviours off the staff and embrace new people in the setting. I will always remember this as a happy experience and was really sad to leave. Thank you WLS for making my time with you a memorable one!

- Trainee Teacher

Some of our teachers are so approachable and I know they care. They spend a lot of time with us in the day and do everything to support us. I am sure we can get on their nerves but they are always patient and considerate of our needs.

- Pupil

I have just returned from a visit to Waterloo Lodge School and have to say it was an absolute pleasure. The staff and pupils were extremely welcoming and there is a great atmosphere in the classrooms. The staff are actively supporting the pupils and seem happy in their jobs. I think they really get what the kids need and go out of their way to ensure they get it. I will be pursuing a placement here for my son.

- Prospective Parent

I still keep in touch with Mr Welsh the schools’ 14-19 Coordinator. He is great at what he does. He is always there to help me and will support me in setting up new placements, even though I left school last year. He goes the extra mile and really does make a difference in people’s lives."

- Former Pupil

I really feel supported by the staff in school. My son is soon to leave school and I am afraid he will not be able to manage in college. The team at WLS put me at ease and I know that they will be there to help me no matter what.

- Carer

I enjoy coming to school because some of the staff are just amazing. They really do want to make a difference to our lives and while I am in school they make a difference to mine.

- Pupil

My son is no angel has made some mistakes in the community but school have always been there. I want to thank everyone at WLS for all their wonderful support. WLS has done so much to help my family over the years and if I could give anything back in return then I would be the first to do so.
