Job overview

Brief description:

ISL is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and introduced design as a mainstream subject in the Middle School in 2024.

We are seeking two Design teachers to play a large role in extending the curriculum to a full MYP Design programme over the next three years.

We are committed to an integrated Product and Digital Design approach and it is essential that any applicant for this position holds expertise in both traditional methods of manufacture, CAD / CAM and coding. The ability to contribute to our Design Technology or Computer Science IB Diploma Programme courses is an advantage but not essential.

As the programme is a developing one, a firm commitment to collaborative working practices is essential, as are high levels of organisation and communication.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Design teacher keen to build new programmes in a well-funded school committed to continuous development. A chance to exercise innovative thinking with a future-focused orientation, this opportunity will suit someone with clear ideas for how Design can create opportunities for engaged and inspirational teaching and learning.

We are keen to attract applicants from diverse backgrounds, particularly those whose nationality, identity, gender or race is currently under-represented in international education.

ISL is committed to safeguarding and prioritising the wellbeing of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Profile: (training, experience, skills and aptitudes necessary to do the job)

●  At least two years of teaching experience in an international school;

●  Current teaching certificate or equivalent required;

●  Proven expertise and experience in developing and delivering curriculum in both Digital and Product Design, preferably within an MYP framework;

●  Demonstrated expertise in both traditional methods of manufacture, CAD / CAM and coding

●  Demonstrated knowledge and experience in successfully teaching product design, physical computing, programming and robotics (types of skills needed: Arduino microcontrollers, Python, P5 and/or Java);

●  Knowledge and experience in teaching product design courses to incorporate woodwork, metalwork, electronics, plastics and textiles is an advantage;

●  Recent successful experience teaching using inquiry and problem-based learning methodologies;

●  Proven knowledge and experience to help students think procedurally, logically, concurrently, abstractly and recursively;

●  Demonstrated enthusiasm to participate in the advisory programmes and direct contributions to student social and emotional wellbeing;

●  Particular strengths in working with technology and technology-supported learning;

●  Able to challenge all students to achieve success, appropriate to their needs;

●  Experienced in working in a collaborative teaching situation;

About The International School of Luxembourg

The International School of Luxembourg (ISL) is an independent, non-profit, day school situated in the city of Luxembourg, capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Founded in 1963, ISL has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 1995, offering both the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The school is currently working towards accreditation for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).

ISL has two sections: the Lower School, and the Upper School, the latter comprising of Middle School and High School. Total school enrolment is approximately 1,350 students, aged 3-18 years. The ISL student body represents more than 60 nationalities, with 70% of students coming from extended Europe.

Working at ISL

We want to recruit and retain superlative professionals in order to bring to life the best of international education. The quality of our educational programme can only be as high as the quality of our staff.

ISL is keen to attract well qualified applicants from a range of different backgrounds, including candidates whose gender, race, nationality or identity is currently under-represented in international school leadership.

The school is fortunate to employ around 300 outstanding teachers, support staff and administrators.

Our faculty and staff come from more than two dozen different countries. Their international background and experience contribute to a learning environment that responds to the students' cultural diversity and meets the needs of an international student population.

ISL educators are trained and certified in their respective fields and more than half of them hold Masters' degrees. Our faculty and staff average 18 years of experience in education with eight of them at ISL. Some teachers come to Luxembourg for just a few years and then move on to new positions elsewhere. Others remain at ISL for much of their career: 12% of the teaching staff has served the school for 20 years or more. In recent years ISL has created a number of new positions in response to increasing enrolment, however staff turnover is actually rather low.

As an organisation with a strong commitment to lifelong learning, ISL recognises the importance of professional development. The school encourages faculty and staff to extend their professional expertise and personal growth by providing opportunities and support for continuing education.
