Assistant Headteacher (SENDCo)

Edgar Wood Academy is looking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher with SENCO responsibility to join our academy in January 2025, on a full-time permanent basis, term time only. We are looking to recruit an individual who is committed to realising our school values of Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, and Resilience and be fully committed to the Altus vision and mission to:

• Advance education in the borough of Rochdale so that young people go on to live happy and fulfilling lives and make positive differences to their communities and society.
• Create an inclusive and cohesive system of education in the area that improves the lives of everyone in the borough.

This role is a newly created pivotal position within the Senior Leadership Team at Edgar Wood, a start-up school which having opened its doors in 2021 now has Y7-10 on roll. This is a fantastic opportunity to help mould and realise a truly inclusive vision education to ensure that all pupils at Edgar Wood Academy, regardless of starting point or background can go on to achieve their full potential.

The school opened its doors in September 2021 and serves the local communities of Heywood and Middleton. Edgar Wood Academy has recently moved into a modern, state-of-the-art building, with stunning views of the local countryside, but within easy access of several motorway links. We can offer the opportunity to shape and develop a curriculum which will capture students’ interests, provoke serious thinking, and develop their intellectual curiosity. The curriculum will be culturally relevant to our students and will serve to develop social attitudes and behaviours, celebrate British values, and ensure that students have an inclusive approach to their local and global communities. Edgar Wood Academy has an extensive enrichment programme which will ensure that all pupils are engaged in a curriculum suffused with memorable experiences and rich opportunities for learning.
