Assistant Subject Leader - Chemistry TLR £3391 p.a. plus R&R £5,000
Required for Easter 2025/September 2025
Are you an ambitious and reflective teacher who wants to make a difference to the life chances of our young people by joining our Science team? Chemistry is a popular subject at A Level and the school is on the DFE Schools Rebuilding Programme, which means that the successful applicant can be part of shaping the future of Chemistry in our new school building which will open in 2026. You will need to be able to teach Science to students in all Key Stages 3-5.
A £5000 recruitment incentive (R&R) payment for successful candidates applying directly to RLT for this role, is payable after a qualifying period of two full terms in this role. This includes a 2-year retention period. Please see our attached information sheet for more details.
This is a ‘Good’ school (Ofsted 2022) with great students and ambitious, talented staff, who aim to develop students who have the belief in themselves that anything is possible. We want each one of them to aspire to be the best they can be without any limitations and it’s important to us that our teachers feel the same.
Do you want to work in a school that:
- is friendly and community centred, where staff genuinely feel part of a team;
- places staff well-being at the heart of everything we do;
- has excellent student behaviour so teachers can teach and students can learn;
- prioritises high quality bespoke CPDL as well as opportunities for collaboration and support across a successful and highly respected multi academy trust;
- is well resourced and where each teacher has their own classroom complete with Clevertouch interactive screen, visualiser as well as a Chromebook.
We want you to apply if you are aspirational to grow and learn yourself, have a keen interest in becoming the best teacher you can be, building effective relationships and transferring to students the same love for your subject that you yourself will have.
All teachers have the opportunity to develop their own teaching and leadership qualities, through our own bespoke CPDL programme, following a relevant master’s course, NPQs, or off-site training of their own choosing through our bespoke professional learning programme. You will also have the opportunity to engage with good practice across Oxfordshire as we play a significant role within the River Learning Trust and engage with teaching colleagues outside our four walls. Through this partnership, we have a strong focus on educational research to inform our practice, and we link closely with other schools.
Our staff tell us they genuinely feel like part of a team; a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally. That’s important to us, if we are going to embody our vision and if you are our kind of teacher, it will be important to you too.
If you are interested in the post, please complete an application form outlining your reasons for applying and your suitability for the post. The closing date for receipt of applications is Sunday 5th January 2025 however, we reserve the right to close a vacancy earlier than the advertised date if we receive applications that meet the criteria. About Gosford Hill School
Welcome to Gosford Hill School
It’s a pleasure to welcome you to Gosford Hill School. Our school prides itself on the emphasis that we place on the needs, aspirations and achievement of individual students with learning very much at the heart of our work. We want our students to develop as resilient and autonomous learners, keen to overcome challenges, and take risks, so that they gain the transferable skills needed to enable them to lead fulfilling lives as confident and articulate individuals in our society.
Every student has strengths and talents, and it is our job to find and unlock that potential in every student. Whether it’s sport, art, music, Duke of Edinburgh or World Challenge, we celebrate success and recognise that learning goes beyond the classroom. Students are often more likely to remember the wealth and diverse range of opportunities available to them beyond the classroom as they are faced with new and exciting challenges.
We work closely with parents, and it is our belief that where the school, individual student and their parents work closely together, students will succeed.
It’s a privilege to lead such a wonderful school and I do hope that you find the information on our website helpful. There is so much more to learn about our school though, so I would therefore urge you to come and visit us in order to find out and experience for yourself why students, parents, staff and our wider community are so proud of our school.
Mr Nigel J. Sellars
Headteacher
