The Role 

BC Academy International School is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking Computing/STEM Teacher to join our expanding KS3 program. The successful candidate will deliver cutting-edge lessons in computing, robotics, and STEM subjects, fostering problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation. This role involves designing a robust curriculum, preparing students for GCSE and A-Level Computing, and leading school and community-based STEM projects and events.

Applicants must be native English speakers and have at least 3-5 years experience working in a British Curriculum school. This role is suitable for a current Head or Deputy Head of Department, or even an aspiring middle leader.

This role is not suitable for NQT/ECT teachers.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and dynamic lessons in Computing, Robotics, and STEM subjects aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
  • Develop and implement a Computing/STEM curriculum for KS3, with plans to expand into KS4 and KS5.
  • Teach foundational and advanced computing concepts, including programming, algorithms, web development, and data science.
  • Foster critical thinking and creativity through hands-on projects using tools such as coding platforms, robotics kits, and maker spaces.
  • Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Computing assessments, including coursework and examinations.
  • Integrate real-world applications of STEM concepts into lessons to connect theory to practice.
  • Lead extracurricular activities such as coding clubs, robotics competitions, and STEM fairs.
  • Organize and oversee school-wide STEM events and participate in community and regional competitions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular projects that integrate STEM with other disciplines.
  • Stay current with advancements in technology and STEM education, incorporating innovative tools and methodologies.
  • Align teaching and extracurricular activities with inspection and accreditation standards, including those from the UAE Ministry of Education and British Schools Overseas (BSO).


Essential Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field; a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification with QTS.
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a British curriculum school.
  • Proven expertise in preparing students for GCSE and A-Level Computing assessments.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scratch, as well as experience with robotics platforms and STEM tools.
  • Strong knowledge of computational thinking and its application in problem-solving.
  • Ability to design and lead hands-on, project-based learning experiences that inspire curiosity and innovation.
  • Familiarity with the British National Curriculum (KS3-KS5) and relevant assessment frameworks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to plan and execute events and extracurricular programs.


Desirable Requirements:

  • Leadership experience, such as Head of Computing/STEM or similar roles.
  • A Master’s degree in Education, Computer Science, Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Experience developing new educational phases, such as establishing KS3 or KS4 Computing/STEM programs.
  • Knowledge of inspection frameworks such as BSO, KHDA, or Ofsted, with experience in inspection preparation.
  • Certifications in areas like robotics (e.g., LEGO Mindstorms), coding (e.g., Python or Java), or digital design (e.g., Adobe Suite).
  • Experience working in an international, multicultural environment.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and AR/VR, and their integration into the curriculum.
