Livability Millie College is a post 16-25+ education setting helping young people with a range of learning and physical disabilities in Dorset and the local area, bridging the gap between education and employment. Students are supported with personalised learning programmes which build confidence and independence, underpinned by a focus on wellbeing.

It is a one-of-a-kind work environment, set on a 350-acre countryside site near Poole. The college’s curriculum is directly aligned to its natural environment and the enterprise activities that operate there, including animal care, catering and retail, conservation and horticulture.

The catering enterprise is an integral part of the college’s Future Pathways, which enables

students to engage in skill acquisition, development and rehearsal as they work with our internal catering provision, in preparation for their next steps. Catering offers diverse culinary experiences and practical learning opportunities, preparing students with skills for future life, and a potential career pathway.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Catering Tutor to join our team and lead our catering and café management programs.


Job outline

As Catering Tutor, you will be responsible for designing and delivering an immersive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for successful careers in the catering and hospitality industry.

A proven track record of curriculum development and experience using a range of methods and resources to teach students with a range of additional needs is required.


Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development and Delivery:

o Design and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in catering, enterprise, and café

management.

o Develop course materials, practical exercises, and assessments to enhance student

learning.

o Stay up to date with industry trends and incorporate them into the curriculum.


Practical Training:

o Provide hands-on training in culinary techniques, café operations, and enterprise

management.

o Oversee and mentor students in real-world catering and café environments,

including our on-campus dining facilities and at pop-up events


Student Support:

o Offer guidance and support to students, fostering their personal development.

o Provide constructive feedback and assess students’ progress through practical and

theoretical evaluations.


Industry Engagement:

o Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, suppliers, and industry

professionals.

o Organise guest chefs, industry visits, and work-related learning opportunities, as

part of our Future Pathways, to enrich the student learning experience.


Enterprise Initiatives:

o Collaborate with the college enterprise team to develop and implement innovative

business ideas.

o Support students in entrepreneurial projects, helping them to plan, launch, and

manage their own food-related ventures.

o Be responsible for the commercial operation of the kitchen and catering-related

activities.


Qualifications and Experience:

• A relevant professional qualification in catering, hospitality, or a related field.

• Significant experience in the catering and hospitality industry. Management experience in a

café or catering setting would be highly desirable.

• A teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards obtaining one.

• Previous teaching or training experience in a further or higher education setting would be

advantageous.

• Ability to inspire and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.

• Level 3 Food Hygiene qualification or above.

• Knowledge of compliance and health and safety regulations and procedures.

• Experience using online systems and POS software.

• Strong organisational and communication skills.

• Ability to work autonomously as well as leading a team.
