Location:        Reddish Hall School, Stockport, Greater Manchester

Salary:           £21,672.19 per annum

Hours:           37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.00pm

Contract:       Permanent, Term time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Cover Supervisor to join our close-knit team at Reddish Hall School located in Stockport.

About the Role

The main purpose of the Cover Supervisor role at Reddish Hall School is to provide high-quality teaching and learning cover across the school. The Cover Supervisor will be responsible for leading whole classes, managing challenging behaviours, and ensuring all pupils remain focused and on track to meet their lesson objectives. This role is crucial in maintaining consistency and continuity of education for the pupils, particularly when teachers are absent or engaged in other school activities.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead whole-class teaching and learning during cover lessons, and support duties as required.
  • Manage challenging behaviours in the classroom, using a calm and positive approach to maintain a supportive learning environment.
  • Ensure all pupils are focused and on track to meet the lesson objectives, providing additional support to those who are struggling.
  • Prepare the classroom for lessons, ensuring it is set up and materials are ready for teaching.
  • Undertake any other duties as delegated by the Senior Leadership Team.


Essential Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent ability to engage and motivate pupils with complex needs, including SEMH and ASC.
  • Knowledge of curriculum subjects
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the resilience to work with pupils who display challenging behaviours.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach, able to quickly adjust lessons and teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of pupils.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils.


Desirable Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience working in a school setting, particularly with pupils who have special educational needs.
  • UK QTS (highly desirable)
  • Creativity and innovation in developing learning opportunities that are tailored to pupils' interests and learning styles.
  • A relevant qualification in education or a related field (e.g., Teaching Assistant qualification).

Reddish Hall School is a co-educational school catering for pupils aged 5-18 with complex educational needs, communication difficulties and challenging behaviour- all of our young people have an Education Health Care Plan. The school accepts pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs, though they may face additional challenges and diagnoses including ADHD, Asperger’s, SpLD, MLD, OCD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome or a variety of other conditions. Additionally, many of our pupils have serious social issues and very difficult home lives resulting in complex emotional difficulties.

All pupils attending Reddish Hall School have individual needs that have proved too complex to be addressed within a mainstream setting. The school provides effective support and a suitably differentiated curriculum, enabling them to progress and succeed to the best of their ability.
