Surbiton High Boys’ Preparatory School is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly motivated individual to take on the role of Deputy Head. This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead key aspects of the School’s ethos, ensuring every pupil feels safe, happy, and secure, while striving for excellence in personal development and education.

Tenure: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive - based on the Surbiton High School Pay Scale

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the vision for exceptional pastoral care, character development, and behaviour for learning, ensuring every pupil flourishes in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Develop and implement strategies to uncover and nurture the unique talents of every pupil, fostering confident and well-rounded learners.
  • Deliver a vibrant and holistic education that inspires a lifelong love of learning.
  • Provide leadership in promoting pupil and staff well-being, maintaining the highest standards of pastoral care and fostering a positive and respectful community.
  • Support the Head of the Boys’ Preparatory School in daily operations, including behaviour systems, timetabling and curriculum development, and through challenging and supportive leadership and line management of staff.
  • Inspire, motivate, and challenge staff to excel, offering effective line management and professional development opportunities.
  • Act as an Assistant Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring robust safeguarding practices are in place and adhered to.
  • To take an active lead in communication with parents and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote the School, enhance communication, and build strong community relationships.


What We Are Looking For:

  • A strong academic background with Qualified Teacher Status and evidence of further professional development in school leadership.
  • Proven experience as a classroom teacher, with a passion for primary education and innovative pedagogy.
  • Significant leadership experience with a record of delivering positive strategic impact across a school.
  • Expertise in pastoral care, character-building education, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to inspire and motivate pupils, staff, and parents.
  • A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and maintain a high level of professionalism.

Surbiton High School has approximately 1600 pupils aged between 4 and 18. Our Preparatory Schools are divided into the Girls’ Preparatory School and Boys’ Preparatory School, and the Senior School is girls only from age 11 upwards.
