If you are looking to further your career in digital communications this position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key strategic role in the Marketing and Communications team at Emanuel School.

The role

As a Digital Content and Communications Officer, you will strategically plan, develop and deliver exceptional digital content for the school, helping to deliver on admissions, fundraising and alumni relations objectives.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that the school’s brand and identity is consistently and positively communicated through all media
  • Sourcing stories, images and information from across the school to inform communications
  • Updating the school website
  • Producing the bi-weekly school e-newsletter
  • Developing digital content to support internal and external messaging through video, podcasts, publications and social media
  • Supporting the organisation of alumni and admissions events

This is a fixed term contract until April 2026 for the purposes of covering an internal secondment.

We are flexible and happy to talk to candidates about the option of 4 days per week.

About you

An understanding of best practice in digital communications, including websites and social media, is essential.

You will need a record of success in a digital communications role, with evidence of making a real impact on outcomes.

Your excellent oral and written English skills and experience will be crucial for writing and editing copy for different target audiences. You will be creative, yet practical, with the ability to turn good ideas into action and deliver against agreed objectives. Strong organisational and project management skills are therefore equally important.

Working at Emanuel

There is always a buzz at Emanuel. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school. With a weekly staff briefing, half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, all of us are engaged in a lively ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims and aspirations.

Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining us should expect to do the same and share our commitment to the highest standards. At the same time our ethos remains unpretentious, kindly and practical, and there’s a strong sense of community and friendship at the school.

We aim to look after our staff well: we have an appraisal scheme with a focus on employees’ professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing. Financially, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.

About Emanuel School

“The school whole-heartedly fulfils its aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition in its pupils.”

ISI Inspection Report April 2023

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1100 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 89% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 39% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 64%. This is 31% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic achievement in the country. The last ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next three years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both traditionally areas of strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in the 2023 Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.

At the heart of our school is a positive and welcoming culture. We are fortunate to have a committed and talented group of colleagues, people who recognise the importance of everyone at the school having a varied and fulfilling working life, giving them a sense of personal growth and shared enjoyment.

We wish you the best of luck with your application.
