Director of English

Are you a passionate Teacher of English who has desire to support young people to love learning and language? As a leader, can you build a team that has a tangible impact on the life chances of young people? Thinking about the curriculum, knowledge and skills of English, are you ambitious for all? Can you be the leader who drives mastery of language and enables rich and vibrant cultural experiences right across our school? If so, you could be our new Director of English.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Director of English to lead our team who actively support each other to ensure that all of our students and staff thrive.

Burscough Priory Academy joined the Endeavour Learning Trust in September 2018 and has thrived as part of a successful family of schools. Our students are hardworking, enthusiastic and keen to work with the staff to get the very best out of every day at school. Since 2018, there has been rapid and sustained improvement, recognised by Ofsted in November 2022 when were judged a ‘Good’ school. Our staff are wholly optimistic, completely committed and work as one in the spirit of E Pluribus Unum.

On behalf of our staff, we are firmly committed to ensuring this is a job that can be enjoyed, where everyone can flourish because we pay close attention to work/home balance. Across the Trust, we continue to develop strategies that take a common-sense approach to those aspects of the role that could become an unnecessary burden on workload - these include feedback, marking and centralised detentions.

Right across the Trust our teachers learn together. They share their practice, encourage and support each other to get the best out of the working day. The candidate will have opportunities to work with other colleagues to support the development of the curriculum and teaching English across our family of schools.

Interviews are to be held on Wednesday 19th June 2024

As part of the interview, you will be asked to plan and deliver a lesson and then discuss it with the panel.
