We are seeking a drama technician with a specialism in lighting design to join our drama department. They will be responsible for all technical aspects of theatre productions. The purpose of the post is to support, promote and develop the role and work of the drama department both in and outside the school.

The drama department at CLSG is highly ambitious, with a focus on expansion and professional level excellence. We are building on existing high standards in the quality of productions and our excellent results at GCSE and A Level and taking this further with multiple co-curricular and partnership projects in development for ‘24 -’25. From September 2024 the department will consist of the director of drama, the second in drama, two part-time teachers of drama, a foreign language director in residence, a full time theatre technician, a theatre company in residence and a part-time departmental administrator. Drama is well equipped with a black box studio theatre, an open-air theatre - the MOAT, and a main school hall, which hosts senior school productions. We currently follow the WJEC Eduqas syllabus for GCSE and the Edexcel syllabus for A Level but are beginning work on an inhouse GCSE equivalent for teaching from September 2026. The Drama department at City produce a wide range of performances, including full scale musicals, house plays, bilingual plays, student-led productions, promenade and immersive productions, and students enter both national and international student focused theatre festivals.

About City of London School for Girls

Academic yet unstuffy, modern yet acutely aware of its history, diverse yet with a strong sense of identity, our location in the heart of the City is definitive to the energy of our school.

City of London School for Girls is an independent day school for pupils aged 11-18 situated in the heart of the Barbican. Opened in 1894, the school provides an outstanding education for able students from all backgrounds, cultures and faiths. We capitalise on our location to attract students from all over Greater London and beyond, and give them access to every learning opportunity our capital has to offer.  This is best demonstrated by our unique geography, nestled between the brutalist Barbican and looming Roman walls. Ours is an intellectually edgy, unassuming and unpretentious environment, unshackled by tradition, and imbued with a relaxed excellence. This is a refreshing and modern place in which to learn.

Our school is one of brave academic enquiry, of intellectual wonder and of fiercely independent thinkers. It’s hard to convey the excitement of the learning at City, where ideas in these rooms become almost become bigger than the people in them, where the structures of learning can become an escape from the self and identity. City is a school which never places any artificial division on our formal academic and co-curricular provision, but celebrates the wild adventure and the fun of learning wherever it is found.
