To coordinate, implement and supervise the Cayman Islands Early Intervention Programme (EIP) which serves children from birth to Primary School age (5 years old) who have disabilities and/or developmental delays.

The post holder is responsible for the overall management of the EI Programme and delivery of services to children and their families in a collaborative multiagency manner

  • Leads a team in the planning and implementation of early intervention services to 8 main areas (Developmental/Educational Services, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Vision Therapy, Hearing Therapy, Educational Psychology, Counseling, and information on referrals to other relevant agencies) for children served by the Early Intervention Programme
  • Direct line supervision of five teaching and one support staff
  • Supports the planning, coordination and facilitation of professional development and information sessions (1 per term) for early childhood practitioners regarding catering to children with special needs in the early childhood setting

The EIP team undertakes 50-80 Intake Assessments for children and families during the academic year, and provides services to 120-180 clients.

*Required qualifications, experience & special skills include the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or other related field which allows qualification as a professional specialist for serving young children with disabilities.
  • Formal teacher training/qualification as specified in the Department of Education Services policy on Teacher Qualifications.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience within early intervention programmes.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in supervision, training and evaluation of personnel.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with children, families and staff including interpreting and communicating complex and sensitive information.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, focused and comprehensible documents for various audiences and purpose
  • Strong knowledge in the basic applications of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Power point and Excel.
  • CPR and First Aid certification and knowledge of other emergency procedures.
  • Working knowledge of early childhood centres.
  • Knowledge of normal and atypical development as it relates to early childhood education.
  • Ability to assess developmental abilities, interpret results and develop and implement Individual Education Plans of children ages 0-5 years.
  • Ability to provide administrative leadership and direction for department personnel.
  • Ability to research, analyze and evaluate new methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to lead staff through the process of intake of families and referral using interagency collaboration.

The remuneration package for the successful candidate is offered without deductions. The Cayman Islands Government provides an additional 12% pension contribution and 100% health insurance coverage for the employee and their dependents.
