Are you passionate about using education to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives? HMP Peterborough is looking for a dedicated and compassionate ESOL Tutor to empower prisoners with vital English language skills. This is a unique opportunity to support individuals on their journey toward personal growth, rehabilitation, and brighter futures.

As an ESOL Tutor, you will inspire learners from diverse backgrounds, fostering their communication skills and helping them gain confidence for life beyond the prison walls. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate with the Education Manager and Hub Managers to design and deliver engaging, learner-cantered lessons tailored to varying skill levels.
  • Apply a self-directed teaching methodology that encourages independence and critical thinking among learners.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment in line with all relevant policies, including Security, Health and Safety, and Prisoner Welfare.
  • Assess individual learner needs and create differentiated teaching strategies and resources to address them.
  • Actively promote courses, monitor attendance, and develop strategies to maximize learner participation.
  • Participate in team meetings to review progress, share feedback, and contribute ideas to enhance teaching practices.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of learners’ work to ensure high standards are consistently met.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A recognized teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, or equivalent) or working towards one.
  • Proven experience delivering ESOL in a classroom setting.
  • Enthusiasm for utilizing in-cell technology to enhance learning and promote independence, decision-making, and self-esteem.
  • A strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities.
  • Effective communication skills across written and verbal mediums.
  • An interest in supporting the rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders.

Desirable but Not Essential:

  • Assessor or IV qualifications.
  • Previous experience working in a prison environment.
