Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School is an exceptional place to study and work. We are a relatively small secondary school of around 800 students and 60 teaching staff. The school provides a warm, welcoming and nurturing teaching environment with excellent support for staff. Our mission statement of ‘Omnia Pro Christo’, meaning ‘all for Christ’, gives us a clear purpose to live out our lives to the best of our ability with God as our witness.

The curriculum at our school sets us apart. It is founded on the principle that all pupils have an entitlement to learn the very best that has been thought and said. Our knowledge-engaged curriculum is the product of extensive research. As a research-led school, we regularly visit other schools, attend education events and commit much time to educational reading. Additionally, each year we aim to work with a high-profile education professional and this has included working with Adam Boxer, Harry Fletcher-Wood and Margaret Mulholland, experts in their fields and distinguished authors of education literature. Our staff are passionate about this work and are very proud of the curriculum and the outcomes it produces.

The element of our curriculum which is radically different and highly valued by staff and pupils is our Transformation Curriculum. On a Friday afternoon, all pupils opt for a 75 minute activity to end the week. The activities are offered by all of our staff, as well as external providers, and the choice for staff is to offer anything at all that they are passionate about and they think pupils will enjoy. The range of activities is vast - taekwondo, volunteering at a local school and care home, learning British Sign Language, gardening - you name it, we do it.

The children at Cardinal Wiseman are inspirational. Each are made in the image and likeness of God and each brings their individual gifts to our school community. They flourish in virtue and flourish academically over their time here. Our commitment to our development of their character is evident in our exceptional behaviour. Our behaviour policy is clear and followed by all, all of the time. As a result, teachers at Cardinal Wiseman can focus wholly on teaching the subject they're knowledgeable and passionate about because our lessons are disruption free.

Working for us

You would be joining a very successful, oversubscribed school for 11-16 year olds which offers exciting opportunities for hard-working and ambitious individuals. You do not have to be Catholic or a person of religion to work at Cardinal Wiseman. Many of our staff are of no faith and yet they love the added dimension that being a faith school brings. Even if you do not believe in God, the values and teachings help to create a beautiful environment and ethos to learn and work within.

Our staff:

  • Have energy, enthusiasm and experience of raising achievement with pupils of all abilities
  • Have a passion for their subject
  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils to their full potential
  • Have an unrelenting focus on the learning experience of all their classes
  • Support the Catholic ethos of the School
  • Enrich the lives of our pupils through the opportunities they offer them

Further Training

Continued professional development is supported for all staff in the school. Alongside this, ECTs will be offered a very supportive ECT Programme.

Where we are

We are located in New Oscott, Birmingham. We have excellent transport links as we are not far from the A38 and M6. The area is very well served by buses.

Staff wellbeing

Workload and wellbeing are given high priority at Cardinal Wiseman. The school uses a professional printing company to print all pupil resources, saving staff hours of time. We also operate a centralised cover system which means staff do not have to cover lessons. A modern fitness suite and swimming pool is also available for staff to use at certain times of the day.
