FOOD TECHNOLOGY & ART TECHNICIAN

SCALE: APT&C Scale 3 (point 5-6)

HOURS & PAY: 35 hours per week, term time only. Actual salary £18,319. 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Faculty Creative Arts & Design Technology

Purpose of the role:

Working under the direction of the Head of Faculty, the successful candidate will work across the Food Technology and Art departments, supporting the respective teams of teaching staff and students to ensure the highest quality of education and high student outcomes.

Main activities and responsibilities:

·        Preparing for lessons including weighing and measuring ingredients, photocopying resources, typing of worksheets and recipes, and placing orders under the guidance of the head of faculty or classroom teacher.

·        Working with the teacher during lessons to ensure health and safety procedures are followed and to support individual or small groups of students as required.

·        Assisting students during examinations and monitoring small groups for assessment.

·        Keeping allergy documentation and pupil allergy records up to date.

·        Ensuring that the general housekeeping of the food room is upheld, this will include the cleaning of cookers, fridges, sinks etc.

·        Organising the washing of items such as tea towels and aprons after each practical lesson.

·        Undertaking regular stock-takes for equipment and food supplies.

·        Ordering and organising stationery as well as text and revision books.

·        Assisting with the presentation of displays within the department and school buildings.

·        Checking food rooms at the start and end of each day to check for any damage or wear to equipment.

·        Report any faults with equipment as necessary to the site team or supplier.

·        There may be occasions when you will need to purchase ingredients from local suppliers and liaise with the school finance department.

·        Maintaining the store cupboards by rotating stock and ensuring that sufficient resources are available for timetabled lessons.

·          Formally logging any accidents and ensuring that the first aid box is properly equipped following the school’s policy.

·          Setting up of specialist equipment necessary for some lessons in both the DT and art areas.

·          Undertaking relevant first aid training once successfully appointed.

·          Specific to Art - ensuring the safe storage of specialist equipment as and when needed in line with the programme of study.

·         To review and develop your own personal practice including taking part in annual performance review.

Sydney Russell School has benefitted from substantial capital investment since the school’s formation. It has excellent accommodation: In the Secondary school teaching rooms are arranged as departmental suites. There is a very large, beautifully-appointed Library/Resource Centre; all of the rooms in our newest two blocks are air-conditioned; a superb Leisure Centre has been built for the school to use during the day and the community in the evenings and at weekends. The Primary School is currently expanding with renovation work underway. The school is a 3 form entry Primary and will continue to grow over the next few years.

Ethos

The ethos at Sydney Russell in one of traditional values. We take a very firm line on discipline, uniform and good manners. We have moved decisively away from any mixed-ability teaching groups: all classes are in three broad ability bands, with some departments, such as Science and Maths using additional finer setting. On discipline, we have a centrally-organised reward and relocation scheme and school detention to take the strain off individual members of staff as well as behaviour modification groups in to take any particularly challenging students out of mainstream classes. Generous additional funding, through Excellence in Cities and other specific grants, has enabled us to provide further extensive targeted support in the form of Learning Mentors, a Learning Support Unit and additional support assistants.
