Job Title:           Functional Skills Teacher

Location:         Bankside College, Hanley Castle, WR8 0AD

Salary:         Up to £38,000.00 per annum

Hours:          37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.30pm

Contract:      Permanent; Term time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Functional Skills Teacher to join our close-knit team at Bankside College, part of Options Autism.

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team a Functional Life Skills Teacher will:

1.       Carry out the professional duties of a schoolteacher as set out in the current School policies.

2.       Teach in accordance with the ethos, organisation and policies of the school as a fully committed member of the teaching team and as detailed in the specific duties and core standards below.

Areas of Responsibility

Teaching & Learning

*       Be responsible for the learning and the achievement of all pupils in the class(es) ensuring equality of opportunity for all

*       Planning and preparing schemes of work and lesson plans

*       Create a purposeful learning environment

Assessment, Recording & Reporting

*       Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils except in instances where to do so might be regarded as compromising a teacher’s own position

*       Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback, reflect on progress, their emerging needs and to take responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study

*       Set a vision and targets for pupil success

Strategic Direction and Development of the School

*       Maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the professional duties of teachers and the statutory framework within which they work, and contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the policies and practice of their workplace, including those designed to promote equality of opportunity

Pupil Care & Welfare

*       Be familiar with and supporting all staff in following the school’s safeguarding policy

*       Be aware of, and comply with, current policies and procedures relating to child protection; health & safety; confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person

*       Know how to identify and support pupils whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support

About the School

Bankside College is an exciting new venture near Hanley Castle, Worcester. Working in partnership with the Outcomes First Group and Options Autism, the College will provide a Further Education experience for those aged 16 to 24 year-olds with autism, complex needs and learning disabilities. The main aim of the College is to help its students prepare for adulthood and their next stage in life.

In a new purpose-built building, situated in acres of natural beauty, Bankside College will provide a varied, individualised curriculum to enable its students to gain vocational and independence skills to help them achieve their aspirations. Our staff will work together as a cohesive team, to provide the very best experience for the students which will include practical activities, Maths, English and Digital Literacy. The curriculum will have a focus on individual targets, personal skills and enrichment which will include The Duke of Edinburgh Award. Some students will also take part in supported work experience, social enterprise programmes, and volunteering.

For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to pupils and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties. As part of Outcomes First Group, we are leading our sector in setting and delivering new approaches that provide measurable outcomes for those in our care.

We are Options Autism, part of Outcomes First Group, certified Great Place to Work for the past 2 years running and leaders within education and care.  For over 16 years we’ve been providing specialist care for adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs.

Our Post 16 college will be an independent specialist college, providing day and residential programmes to students aged 18-25 years with autism, complex needs and learning disabilities offering vocational training.  Based in 30 acres of beautiful surroundings, the college will accommodate 30 learners and will have a personalised approach for the students.  The college will be based close to one of our residential services, providing the opportunity to offer a package of support which includes residential education through utilising the available services across the group; thus ensuring the best possible outcomes for each individual.
