GERMAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER (English International Stream - Secondary School)

The German Swiss International School (GSIS) is one of Hong Kong's leading international schools providing quality, holistic education to a multinational student body of approximately 1300 students and 240 faculty and staff. The school is organised into two Streams, German and English leading to qualifications in the German International Abitur and I/GCSE & IBDP respectively. We are inviting applications for the following position commencing in August 2025.

The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher of German as a foreign language who is dedicated to enabling each child to achieve the highest possible standards. You will be expected to be up to date with current best practice in teaching and learning of foreign languages to primary age students, including ongoing formative assessment strategies. You will be a dynamic, open-minded and enthusiastic teacher, who provides learning opportunities to meet the needs, abilities and developmental stages of every student. You will be committed to pedagogical approaches which give each student the opportunity to experience success, and which challenge all students to achieve their full potential.

The Teacher of German as a Foreign Language will be required to teach throughout the English Secondary School. A key aim will be the preparation of students for the UK I/GCSE and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Students are also prepared for the Deutsche Sprachdiplom examinations.

What is required and what we’re looking for

• Teaching qualification and suitable academic qualifications in the subject area
• 3 years, or more, teaching experience preferred
• Excellent English speaker (native speaker level) and excellent German speaker (level equivalent to at least C1 of the CEFL) with sound written and oral communication skills
• Culturally sensitive, tolerant and patient
• Positive work ethic
• Positive, proactive and independent work ethic
• Experience of, or knowledge of, the IB Diploma
• Some experience of the IGCSE programme, as well as the DSDI and II qualifications, is advantageous. A willingness to contribute to the provision of these aspects is required.
• Willingness to contribute to overseas trips, including a language exchange programme, as needed
• Enthusiasm for involvement in extra-curricular and academic enrichment activities.
