Job overview

About Us:

The Jewish Community Academy Trust (JCAT), a collective of four primary schools in North London and Hertfordshire, is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and personal growth within the Jewish community. We are seeking an exceptional Governance Lead to ensure our governance framework supports our mission of educational excellence.

The main purpose of the Governance Lead is to ensure that all layers of the Trust’s governance arrangements operate as a coherent whole. This is a strategic leadership position responsible for keeping the ‘conscience’ of the Trust through monitoring compliance with regulatory requirements, coordinating with the Minute Clerk ensuring local arrangements are consolidated across the schools within the Trust whilst also providing robust challenge and support for the schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shared Clerking Duties: Share the responsibility of clerking meetings with the Minute Clerk, ensuring all Trustee and Governor meetings are well-documented.
  • Meeting Coordination: Arrange all Trustee and Governor meetings, ensuring all logistical details are meticulously managed.
  • Clerking and Minute Writing: Attend meetings, take comprehensive minutes, and ensure their timely distribution.
  • Records Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all governance activities, including trustee and governor files.
  • Pre and Post Meeting Administration: Handle all preparatory and follow-up administrative tasks to ensure meetings are conducted efficiently.
  • Onboarding: Facilitate the seamless onboarding process for new trustees and governors, ensuring they are well-integrated and informed.
  • Register of Interests: Maintain and regularly update the register of interests for all trustees and governors.
  • Training and Development: Organise and oversee training sessions to ensure trustees and governors are well-equipped to fulfil their roles.
  • Governance Advice: Provide expert governance advice to trustees and governors, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and best practices.

Dear Colleague

Thank you for expressing an interest in applying for a post with the Jewish Community Academy Trust.

JCAT is modern and centrist Orthodox in outlook, under the religious authority of the Chief Rabbi, providing an immersive Jewish experience and education for all students, tailored to the specific needs of each of its academies. It is a centre of educational excellence, developing well-rounded students committed to a life of Torah, Jewish values and to the State of Israel, who have a strong commitment to Britain and British values. We intend our pupils to make a meaningful contribution to the Jewish community, Israel and wider society. JCAT is creating  a nurturing cohort of schools keen  to  develop and challenge its  students to learn and grow.

There are four Primary schools within the Trust – two 2-form entry schools (Wolfson-Hillel in Southgate and Hertsmere in Radlett) and two 1-form entry schools in Barnet (Rimon and Sacks Morasha.) We have one Outstanding School, two designated Good and one awaiting re-inspection. In terms of section 48 inspections, two of the schools are outstanding and two are good. There are around 190 teaching and support staff, 1250 pupils and a small executive team, based in Wolfson-Hillel, led by myself.

JCAT represents a vibrant community of colleagues, always keen to move on and innovate with the latest approaches based on secure research. I have a weekly business meeting with Headteachers via Teams and there is a monthly meeting where we discuss matters of more moment and share ideas and issues.

I do hope you will follow up your initial interest and I am happy to reply to any additional queries.

Warm regards

Gareth Jones

JCAT CEO
