Train to Teach at Haberdashers’ Elstree Schools

Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship Opportunity

Starting Salary - £32,542

Starting September 2025

Habs  has built a reputation for being a centre of excellence for teacher training. Attracting outstanding trainees to our two bespoke teacher training programmes.

Habs Graduate Teacher Training Programme (GTTP)

Habs works closely with the University of Buckingham to train and support outstanding teachers new to the profession through a range of routes including the Apprenticeship with QTS and PGCE. Habs recruits and employs 1-4 graduates a year based on current workforce needs.

Habs runs an in house training programme to support the developing practice of our trainee teachers.  It is based on the ITT Core and Early Career Frameworks, led by pedagogical and subject experts and runs across all our schools with trainees from both Prep and Senior schools working together to share experiences and best practice in the Habs context.   Our trainees are supported by subject specific mentors and by the Director of Initial Teacher Training in both schools. All trainees are employed by Habs Elstree Schools and undertake a contrasting 3-week teaching placement in one of our local partner Maintained schools.

Our three-year programme is a high quality, salaried training route leading to both QTS and a PGCE which is recognised across both the Independent and Maintained sectors.  The programme supports our trainees to be inspirational teachers and set them up for a successful career in teaching at Habs and beyond.

The programme includes in-school, immersive, and supportive experience for individuals who are aspirational, passionate about their subject and who are eager to explore teaching as a profession and career path.

We are open to applications from Economics, Geography, Physics and Biology and welcome applications from graduates aspiring to a career in teaching. You may currently be an undergraduate or thinking about a career change. As a highly qualified graduate, passionate and knowledgeable about your subject area, you will show an aptitude for enthusing young people about learning. Our training programme will support your aspiration to train to teach in a stimulating environment with access.

To be eligible for the programme you will be a graduate of a UK university at 2:1 or above, and hold a grade B in GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent, and have the right to work in the UK without the need for sponsorship for the duration of the course.

If you would like an informal discussion about this exciting opportunity, please email Marie Carrick (mcarrick@habselstree.org.uk).

Benefits included:
