Job overview

We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic, dynamic, and suitably experienced individuals to work as members of the Guidance Management Team. You will be responsible for ensuring that students have excellent pastoral support in relation to a wide range of issues and needs, including academic progress, personal development, behaviour and welfare, careers progression, and safeguarding.

In addition to reporting to the Head of Guidance, you will work with the Head of Student Experience to lead and support a team of Personal Tutors, assisting and supervising them in their casework to achieve excellent outcomes for students. You will also have your own two tutor groups and contribute to the tutorial programme.

You will join a Guidance Team consisting of seven Guidance Managers and a Head of Guidance with an emphasis on collaborative working and sharing best practice. Guidance Managers have access to office space to facilitate confidential casework, whilst regular team meetings, group supervision and cross-college work ensure the Guidance Team are supported in their work and are at the heart of the college community. As a member of the Guidance team, you will work closely with other teams from across the College and particularly closely with the Safeguarding, Welfare and Student Support Team and the Enrichment, Employability and Experience Team, as well as our curriculum departments.

In addition to core duties, each Guidance Manager leads on specialist cross-college areas of provision which are agreed annually amongst the team. The cross-college responsibilities for the 24–25 academic year are Personal Development & Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), Student Wellbeing, Young Carers, Designated Teacher (Children in Care), Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and HE/Study Abroad.

Salary: The starting salary is £41,257 per annum, which increases annually up to £44,354 per annum over four years. You will also receive an annual leave entitlement of 29 days (plus bank holidays), rising to 34 days after five years’ service, the majority of which will normally be taken outside usual term time, as well as access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Hours/Contract: Permanent, full-time for 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (negotiable between the hours of 8.30am and 5.30pm). From time to time, these hours will vary in response to the needs of the College and will include some evening work (for example, parents’ evenings, school visits and open evenings).

About Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College

Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College, otherwise known as BHASVIC, is a co-educational sixth form college for around 3,500 students aged 16-19. The college was founded in its current form in 1975, having formerly been a grammar school. In recent years, the college has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation, and as such can now boast of a range of modern teaching and recreational facilities. BHASVIC is consistently in the top 1% of all state providers in terms of both raw results (A level A*-B grades are +70%) and Value Added (A level = +0.48). Students come from over 60 different schools, with 50% of students coming from Brighton and Hove. Students study from over 40 subject courses at A level and level 3 BTEC, alongside Maths and English GCSE and a diverse range of portfolio and enrichment courses.
