Job overview

The Governors of Campbell College are looking to appoint a new Head who will relish the prospect of living and working in a stimulating and purposeful environment: one that encourages each individual to make the very best of the opportunities presented by the School, the vibrant city of Belfast and the wider surrounding Northern Ireland region. This opportunity arises on the retirement of the current Head, Robert Robinson, who has given the School many years of distinguished service.

Campbell College is an HMC day and boarding school for around 1,200 boys aged 3–18, which, throughout its rich history, has been committed to raising expectations, fostering enthusiasm and inspiring a love of learning. Campbell College boys leave the School believing that they can make a real and lasting difference in society and with skills and experiences that are going to matter to them for the rest of their lives.

Campbell College has a very strong reputation for the excellent all-round education of boys within an inclusive, values-rich and caring community. The College comprises an independent Junior School with a Senior School funded through both government contributions and modest school fees. Nearly all Junior School boys move up to the Senior School. The College has long been committed to the best possible education for boys, which, in the current climate, has never been more needed.

We anticipate that with our heritage and history, our strong current profile and our attractive setting within a 100-acre woodland campus on the outskirts of Belfast, this post will be very attractive to current or aspiring Heads in Northern Ireland and beyond. We are looking for a new Head who is personable, ambitious and resilient; someone who would relish the mutual benefit of being fully engaged with the Governors in working to ensure the College’s future prosperity and sustainability.

If this is a post that excites you and you feel you have the requisite skills and experience, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Interested candidates are invited to contact RSAcademics to arrange a confidential discussion with one of the consultants handling this appointment:

The grounds were originally purchased in 1887 by the Trustees of the will of Henry James Campbell as the location for the College that bears his name. The original building, now listed, forms the heart of the school which is set in a wooded campus of some 100 acres in the suburbs of east Belfast. All school buildings, including our boarding provision, Junior School and the extensive sporting facilities are situated on campus. Further extensions to the Junior School and the Boarding Department are due be completed by September 2012.

At Campbell College we aim to promote all personalities, all talents and interests and to nurture a culture of mutual trust. Academic and vocational study is vitally important to this school and we expect our students to reach for high grades, but Campbell’s view of education celebrates the creative, physical and spiritual as well as the intellectual. Above all, we want our students to leave this school with an assured set of values; we want them to believe that they can make a difference in society; we want boys to leave this school with things that are going to matter to them for the rest of their lives.
