Job overview

Company: Wymondham College

Job title: Head

Job reference: LBQLA

Closing date: Wednesday 23rd October

Wymondham College, serving 1,450 pupils aged 11-18, is the largest state boarding school in the UK, with over 550 boarders. The boarding element adds a rewarding 24/7 dimension to school life. The College has a strong national reputation, with ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted ratings for both education and boarding in October 2023. Recent accolades include the World Class Schools Quality Mark and the 2021 National Secondary School of the Year at the National Teaching Awards.

The College is a founding member of the Sapientia Education Trust (SET), which has expanded to include 20 schools, including Wymondham College Prep School, co-located on our campus. This unique setup provides an opportunity to develop a seamless 4-18 provision across a single site.

The exciting and unique blend of young people from both local and international students is one of the many reasons why Wymondham College is such a dynamic, successful and fascinating place to be. Part of this uniqueness comes from boarding which forms the very essence of college life for our Boarders and Day students. Wymondham College has always been a fully co-educational school and since the 1970s we have had mixed boarding houses, and every student is attached to one of these.

We are seeking a collaborative leader and team player to contribute to the success of both the College and SET. Although previous experience in boarding is helpful, it is not essential. What matters most is a commitment to providing a well-rounded, world-class education. You should have a strong background in teaching and learning, and a vision centred on pupils’ success, alongside a commitment to professional development.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to Wymondham College on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference LBQLA.

Wymondham College is a unique state day and boarding school offering an educational experience unlike any other. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds in the UK and overseas and achieve outstanding academic success.

But to us, education isn't just about grades; it's about creativity, it's about sport, it's about friendship, it's about new opportunities, it's about fun. Above all, it's about Life.

Wymondham College exists to enable young people to become happy, successful and useful citizens, to aim for excellence in all they do and to find fulfilment in life.

The College aims to provide the best state education in England within an inclusive and caring boarding community to which all are proud to belong. We expect students to work hard, to maintain high standards of personal presentation and behaviour and to demonstrate respect for others within the College, in the local community and further afield. We encourage students to match their academic attainment with personal integrity, physical fitness, aesthetic sensitivity, emotional maturity and an open approach to spirituality based on broadly Christian values.

We are committed to working with other schools and organisations for mutual benefit and to promote the achievement and welfare of children generally. We strive to adopt best practice in consulting members of staff and in promoting their interests as employees. We use resources prudently and efficiently to further the aims of the College, whilst meeting our responsibilities to minimise the environmental impact of our activities. We welcome the involvement of parents and carers in the education of students.

Above all, Wymondham College seeks to be a place where wisdom may flourish.
