Winchester College seeks a proactive Head of Careers to join our dynamic Futures Team. As Head of Careers, you will be responsible for developing a programme of events for pupils and their families in Years 9 to 13, to inform, guide and nurture individual development into adulthood, enabling the best choices to be made at each stage of the journey. As Head of Careers, you will drive the team to embed a careers curriculum for each year group that builds interest in the world of work, and ensures each student receives tailored support to achieve their academic and professional aspirations. This role might attract candidates who may or may not have a background in teaching. Working closely alongside the Director of Higher Education (university admissions) and the Director of Winchester College Society (alumni) the Head of Careers will support relationships, facilitating diverse careers opportunities including visiting speakers, excursions, workshops, work experience, and internships.

About Winchester College

The school was founded by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester, in 1382. Winchester College is a boarding and day school of over 700 pupils. In September 2022, the College welcomed day pupils – now numbering 40, including 34 girls - into the Sixth Form and will continue to do so, over time expanding the entry each year to include girl boarders in due course.

Situated in the heart of Winchester and within easy reach of London, there are few schools in the world which can claim to be as historic, distinguished, and beautiful as Winchester College.

Terms and Applications 

This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, and such other hours as are reasonably necessary to meet the needs of the College and the demands of the role. 

Flexible start date for the right candidate with preference for commencement at the beginning of the next academic year, 28th August 2024.

Situated in Hampshire, Winchester College is an independent, secondary school for pupils aged between 13 and 18. The school was founded in 1382 by the Bishop of Winchester, William of Wykeham. It was expanded in the 19th Century to accommodate the popular demand in the local society. At the moment, there are over 700 pupils enrolled at the boarding school.

Winchester College aims to give pupils attending the school an enriching curriculum where they will learn new skills in order to live in the modern world. This includes communication and leadership skills. The school hopes the children will become life-long learners and be excited to continue learning a subject of their choice at university level. Pupils achieve excellent results in national examinations and make good progress in relation to the average of similar abilities. Pupils are successful in achieving high levels in a wide range of co-curricular activities, notably in academic competitions, music and sport. They enjoy an excellent, distinctive curriculum which encourages intellectual curiosity over and above preparation for examinations. In their learning, pupils display enthusiasm, commitment and a love of reading and research. This is engendered by excellent teaching overall which widens pupils’ academic horizons and challenges their thinking. The teaching offers individual support to all pupils, including those with SEND.”
