Frameworks: The National Curriculum, The Children’s House Thematic Curriculum
Time Allocation: This is a full time role, previously advertised as a part time role
The Children’s House
The Children’s House was set up in 1973 by a group of local parents, originally to provide high-quality early years education in Islington. Our Nursery is in Elmore Street and caters for children ranging in age from 2½ to 4, whilst the Upper School, a short distance away in King Henry’s Walk, currently offers Reception to Year 3 and is expanding to a full prep school in the coming years.
The school’s focus is on families and children, with a strong emphasis on pastoral care. Classes are small, and the school community is warm and friendly, with supportive parents and plenty of opportunities for teachers to get involved in whole school events.
Learning is individualised, with high teacher child ratios and importance placed on creativity. Whilst we are non-selective, pupils are all prepared for the 11+ and do very well academically.
Aims
The Children’s House aims to provide as broad and varied a physical education as possible, so all children, regardless of ability, enjoy and become enthusiastic about physical activity. The ability to teach sport to our youngest children in the Nursery is important.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic sports teacher who can motivate and inspire all children in Physical Education, supporting every individual to reach their potential. Our Head of PE and Games will be able to work collaboratively with the staff team to raise the profile of sport and facilitate as many different opportunities as possible for pupils to get involved in sports, throughout the year. We are looking for a person who can quickly generate confidence and respect and who is capable of fostering highly positive working relationships with children, parents and colleagues.
We are currently considering the possibility of leasing a 16 seater minibus to transport pupils to offsite PE and would welcome candidates who would drive a minibus.
HEAD OF PE & GAMES
The Head of PE and Games will lead the sports provision throughout the School, from Nursery (2.5 year olds) to Year 5 (our first Year 5 class will be startingin Sept 2024).

About The Children's House
The Children’s House School is a well-established nursery and preparatory school in Islington, North London, currently welcoming children from 2.5 to10 years of age (Year 5).
The School is on two sites: the Nursery and Pre-Reception based at Elmore Street, and the Upper School on King Henry's Walk, housing Reception to Year 5. The sites are a 20 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride apart.
For many years, the school was a pre-prep, finishing at Year 2, but following demand from parents, we embarked on an expansion project. Next September we will welcome our first Year 6 class and Reception will move over to Elmore St, which will become our dedicated Early Years Centre. This is a very exciting time to be joining the school, and every member of staff is invited to play an instrumental role in our first few years as a full primary school.
Our ethos is simple: We want each child to reach their full potential in a happy and nurturing environment, taught by excellent teachers. We value creativity and our thematic curriculum promotes the creation of links between subjects, so that children's learning is deeper and contextual. Though we are non selective on entry, we consistently achieve excellent academic results across all abilities through our unwavering dedication to each child and their individual learning style and needs.
Pupils are prepared for 11+ entry to a variety of London day schools, and the inclusion of drama, Philosophy for Children as well as Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning into our curriculum, supports this, alongside a focus on stretch and challenge, and support to those pupils who need it.
Our community is warm and friendly. Parents are closely involved in their children's education, and our open door policy promotes regular communication and collaboration. As a one form entry school with a small team. teachers and TAs work closely together, supporting one another and united by a shared purpose, driving toward collective success.
