Job overview

St Claudine’s Catholic School for Girls is a highly-successful Catholic girls’ comprehensive school (ages 11-18) in the northwest London Borough of Brent. We require a new Head of Department for PE to start in January or as soon as possible thereafter.

Learning at St Claudine’s is rooted in the Gospel values in a warm, supportive and nurturing community. Even though we are a Catholic School, it is not a requirement to be Catholic and our international community welcomes staff and students of all faiths and none. Behaviour at the school is outstanding and students are educated via a rich and diverse, holistic curriculum to become confident, articulate and independent young people.

PE is taught as a core subject to classes in Year 7 through to Year 11, and sports and fitness is offered as a 6th from enrichment activity. The school has two gyms, an outdoor MUGA and a recently refurbished and equipped fitness suite. There is scope to further develop and build sports across the school and to introduce PE at GCSE and, in time, at A level. This is a very exciting time to join this happy, successful and thriving school community.

We are seeking a dynamic, hardworking, flexible team player with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to join our busy school. Applicants for the role must have energy, enthusiasm and pride in a meticulous approach to work.

Further details of this post are available on the school website.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children you will be required to undertake a DBS check.

All staff are expected to be positive spokespeople for the school and to role model the professional behaviours and attitudes we expect to see in the students. All staff might be required to carry out any reasonable duty or request made by the Headmistress or Deputy Headteacher that is not covered in this job description.

About Saint Claudine's Catholic School for Girls

This truly remarkable school has been providing the highest quality of holistic education to girls for over a century. Its long history of Catholic tradition and founding on the values of St Claudine Thevenet ensure that every child is seen as special, unique and a gift from God. St Claudine’s life work was to care for, nurture and educate children. She established the Religious of Jesus and Mary houses and schools which has led to the current education of children in 28 different countries. Here in England there are just three Convent of Jesus and Mary schools; an independent college in Thornton and an infant and secondary girls’ school here, in Willesden.

St Claudine’s Catholic School for Girls provides places to more than 1,000 girls aged 11-18 and has its own sixth form.

Values and vision

Prayer is an essential part of the life of our school.  We pray together at the beginning and end of the day, in form times and assemblies, at the start of lessons and before exams. Everyone in our school community is invited to participate in our prayer and liturgy insofar as they are able. Students lead music, read scripture and prayers in assemblies and at Mass. We have a special affection for St. Claudine who founded the Religious of Jesus and Mary, and often ask her to pray for us using our school prayer.

Ofsted report

“A highly experienced headteacher leads a strong senior team who identify good practice in teaching and learning from a range of sources and implement it across the school… Positive attitudes to learning are a notable feature among students who arrive in class very well prepared for learning and ready to do their best.”
