Based in Lusaka, Zambia, Lusaka International Community School (LICS) is a co-educational, secular, fee-paying, non-profit school, which provides an internationally recognised education to a culturally diverse, globally-minded student body in a caring and supportive learning environment. LICS is a leading independent Pre-Primary, Primary, and Secondary School based in the leafy suburb of Roma in Lusaka, Zambia, and is a member of CIS, AISA, and ISAZ.

The school currently has an opening in the Physical Education and Sports Department and is looking for a visionary leader passionate about physical education and sports, with a proven ability to inspire both students and staff to achieve excellence to join the LICS community as the Head of Sports and Physical Education with effect on 1st August 2025.

1. Requirements

● At least three (3) years in a similar role with proven leadership skills. Ability to motivate and inspire both students and staff.

● Strong track record as an excellent Physical Education and Sports practitioner with the ability to inspire high levels of student performance.

● Experience in writing effective Schemes of Learning in line with international best practices, using data to inform teaching strategies, and using self-evaluation to drive continuous improvement.

● Demonstrated ability to support colleagues at various stages of their professional development, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

● Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and introduce innovative approaches within the role.

● Demonstrate excellent leadership skills to develop and maintain high-quality departmental provision.

● Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high levels of energy, enthusiasm, and resilience.

● Excellent communication skills, with a sense of humour and strong interpersonal abilities to build positive relationships.

3. Qualifications and Experience

● Undergraduate Degree in teaching Physical Education/Sports

● A Master's degree would be preferable 

● Registered TCZ and or QTS 

● Additional qualifications relevant to the role.

4. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

4.1 Curriculum and Assessment: 

Lead the creation and regular updating of schemes of learning, ensuring alignment with PE policies and differentiation for all learners. Implement coherent assessment systems, oversee internal moderation, and use data to inform teaching strategies. Promote engaging and innovative teaching methods that inspire student interest in PE and Sports.

4.2 Sports Development: 

Enhance student participation and performance in sports through quality extracurricular programmes, extensive training for teams, and preparation for local, regional, national and international competitions. 

4.3 Student and Staff Management: 

Foster high standards of behaviour and achievement, ensuring inclusivity and celebrating success. Support staff development through mentoring, professional growth opportunities, and performance management. Lead by example, promoting a collaborative and supportive departmental culture.

4.4 Resource and Budget Management: 

Plan and manage departmental budgets, allocate resources equitably, and oversee the maintenance of facilities and assets. Develop and implement improvement plans in line with the school’s goals.

4.5 Health and Safety:

Ensure all departmental activities are conducted safely, with staff fully trained and compliant with health and safety procedures.

4.6 Professional Relationships and Development: 

Build strong, collegial relationships within the department, allocate responsibilities based on strengths, and support staff through tailored professional development plans. Oversee induction programs for new and trainee teachers.

4.7 Afternoon Activities Coordination: 

Collaborate with school leadership to design and implement a comprehensive termly programme of sporting afternoon activities, ensuring smooth operations and effective scheduling, in liaison with the Activities Coordinator.

4.8 Communication:

Maintain clear and concise communication with students, families, and stakeholders via school MIS. Compile and share weekly PE and Sports Update with community. Ensure departmental policies and documents are accessible, and coordinate with the Exams Officer for timely submission of coursework and exam entries. Liaise regularly with Principals regarding events and curriculum development. 

4.9 Events:

Organize sports events, liaise with external organizations, and manage fixtures while ensuring effective communication and logistics.
