Canon Slade School is a vibrant Church of England High School and Sixth Form with an outstanding legacy and reputation for academic and personal excellence. Following the retirement of the current post holder, we invite inspiring and ambitious leaders to apply for the position of Headteacher. Canon Slade provides a high-quality Christian environment in which young people can thrive and succeed. As a member of the Bishop Fraser Trust, the school enjoys the strength and support of a network that brings together a family of schools committed to nurturing every student’s unique potential.
As Headteacher, you will have the privilege of leading this distinguished school through the next chapter of its journey, shaping the lives of our students, strengthening our commitment to Christian values, and ensuring we continue to provide an outstanding, forward-thinking education in a rapidly changing world. With a focus on academic excellence and personal development, we encourage each student to be ambitious, compassionate, and resilient, equipped with the skills and confidence to achieve their goals. Through collaborative partnerships within the Trust, Canon Slade’s leadership is supported in pursuing continuous improvement, innovative educational practices, and creating opportunities for personal growth among both staff and students.
What makes Canon Slade unique?
Canon Slade School, grounded in the enduring principles of our Christian faith, is a school where tradition meets innovation. As one of the most respected Church of England high schools in the region, we are committed to fostering an education deeply rooted in Christian values, guiding students not only academically but spiritually and morally. Our faith-driven ethos is at the heart of everything we do, shaping all aspects of school life from rigorous academic achievement to compassionate pastoral care.
At Canon Slade, we believe that education is a journey that encompasses the whole person. In addition to academic success, we focus on nurturing the character and spiritual development of each individual, recognising that a strong moral compass is essential for navigating life’s challenges. Students are encouraged to develop qualities such as integrity, humility, respect, and empathy. They are taught to value service, kindness, and honesty, preparing them to be responsible, engaged individuals who contribute positively to their communities and the wider world.
The Role: Headteacher – a unique opportunity for visionary leadership
As Headteacher, you will be the guiding force behind Canon Slade's continued pursuit of excellence. We are looking for a leader who shares our passion for educating the whole child—academically, spiritually, and socially. In this role, you will have the opportunity to harness the energy, creativity, and dedication of a highly talented team of educators, committed Governors, supportive parents, and enthusiastic community partners. By embracing the strengths of our Christian ethos, you will help every student achieve their fullest potential and make a meaningful contribution to the world.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity either for an experienced Headteacher, eager to make a broader impact in a large school with a thriving sixth form, or for an ambitious Deputy Headteacher ready to take the next step into headship. Canon Slade seeks a leader who is strategic, visionary, and committed to growth—someone who can not only maintain our high standards but also bring fresh ideas, drive, and enthusiasm to build on our successes and address challenges with resilience and innovation.
If you are ready to lead with passion, purpose, and integrity, and if you are committed to inspiring others in a community grounded in Christian values, we warmly welcome your application. Canon Slade School is excited to find a leader who shares our vision for a future where every student, supported by our dedicated staff, is prepared to succeed, serve, and make a positive impact on the world.
In return we offer you:
- A strong commitment to your ongoing professional development
- Mentoring by and support from a CEO who has been a successful headteacher, and a wider Trust Central team.
- Support from fellow headteachers and staff across the Trust
- The chance to make a real difference to the lives of our inspiring children and young people
- A rewarding role in a stable school with good outcomes
