Following the retirement of our successful and well respected headteacher, the governors of Birkby Infant & Nursery School are looking to appoint an inspirational and enthusiastic headteacher to lead our team.

Birkby Infant & Nursery School is an outstanding school in an urban area, serving a diverse community with high levels of deprivation.

‘Together we can’ is the school motto as the whole school believes in TEAMWORK and working in partnership with families and all agencies to ensure the development of a strong school by setting high expectations and standards of excellence to achieve the best possible outcomes for ALL of the children.

The headteacher must be a strategic leader who is able to develop and articulate the vision, values, culture and ethos for Birkby Infant & Nursery School and is capable of inspiring and empowering others to work as a team to achieve it.

We anticipate the new appointment to commence on 22nd April 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong record of working as part of a Senior Leadership Team.
  • Lead school improvement and raise educational standards for all children.
  • Have an excellent knowledge of curriculum development from Early Years through to Year 2.
  • Enjoy developing, coaching and supporting team members to ensure they provide the best possible education and care for our pupils.
  • Align to the mission, vision and values of the school.
  • Be approachable and accessible to all staff, pupils and parents, demonstrating empathy and compassion.
  • Have a strong knowledge base and extensive experience of supporting children with SEND.
  • Is willing and able to get involved in all areas of school life showing flexibility and adaptability.
