Kitchen / Catering Assistant

Working Monday to Friday term time only, between 20 and 35 hours per week (up to 7 hours per day) working between the hours of 07.00 and 16.00. Shifts to be confirmed at interview to suit the needs of the individual and school.

Salary Scale: Scale 2 Point 3-4 (£13.15 - £13.37 per hour)

We are looking for motivated and passionate Kitchen Assistants who will be at the heart of our school, working as part of our catering team delivering an outstanding food provision across the school. You will join a team that takes a real pride in what they do and who are passionate about providing outstanding service. To meet the needs of the whole school community.


Your key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing delicious, high-quality food that delights our students & staff

• Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness of the kitchen and surrounding areas

• Ensuring the correct use of all machinery and equipment at all times

• Assisting with the loading or unloading of deliveries and storing away

• Representing the school and maintaining a positive brand image

• Complying with Food Handling & Hygiene standards

• Complying with Health & Safety regulations


The ideal candidate will:

• Demonstrate an ability to manage pressure, prioritise tasks and communicate effectively at all levels

• Be an excellent team player

• Have a committed and organised approach

• Have a desire to succeed in your role

• Possess the ability to work under pressure

• Be flexible to work occasional out of hours school events, you will be paid for working these

• Demonstrate Exceptional timekeeping and reliability

Recruitment process

We serve a diverse community and we positively welcome applications from all sections of the community. We also welcome candidates with a non traditional background. The most important thing for us is your desire and ability to make a difference in young peoples lives.

Our recruitment process is fair and transparent and designed to get the best candidate for the role. A sample of our recruitment process is listed below

  • Advert placed on TES, internally and in LBBD boards
  • Blind shortlisting by a panel against the Job description. Potential applicants are   scored. Shortlisting by at least 3 people including one SLT.
  • Shortlist for interview based on scores from shortlisting.
  • Interview process will depend on role and may include; lesson observations, data or admin tasks, panel interviews, student panels and a final interview
  • All assessed tasks are scored according to set criteria and scores are moderated   to ensure consistency.
  • All panel interviews and final interviews are scored. Each interview has a   moderation process to ensure consistency of scores where appropriate. Questions are common to all applicants.
  • Feedback is provided by a member of the panel.


Ofsted report

A clear theme running through the school is the positive behaviour of pupils and their excellent attitudes to their work. Pupils are keen to do well and seize the opportunities given by teachers to work hard. They conduct themselves well around the school and are polite and respectful towards others. These attitudes have a strong impact on pupils' achievements because they enable learning to take place without undue interruption.
