Location: Huish Episcopi Academy, Langport 

Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (Term time plus 1 week)

Pay: FTE £23,400 (Actual salary £20,191.50 per annum)

Reports to: SENDCO

Role Purpose:

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Learning Coach to join our team, supporting the academic and personal development of secondary school students. You will work closely with teaching staff, assisting with subject-specific learning, and providing tailored support to students, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with subject-specific learning activities, adapting support to suit individual needs (including SEND and EAL students).
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Promote independence and self-reliance in students, recognising and rewarding their achievements.
  • Provide feedback to students on their progress and liaise with teachers on their performance.
  • Assist with the management of classroom behaviour and help create a positive learning environment.
  • Support class teachers in preparing learning materials, marking, and delivering feedback.
  • Engage with activities outside the classroom, including break and lunch duties, school trips, and after-school clubs.

Person Specification:

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Qualifications: GCSE in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or higher) is essential. A Teaching and Learning qualification is desirable.
  • Skills: Good IT, communication, and problem-solving skills. An understanding of effective learning strategies and behaviour management techniques is beneficial.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children, especially those with additional needs, is desirable but not essential.
  • Characteristics: Approachable, patient, and committed to making a difference to young people’s lives. Passionate about inclusion, equality, and diversity.

Huish Episcopi Academy is a large, non-selective, mixed secondary school for pupils aged 11-18 based in the heat of the Somerset Levels with a large catchment area.
