Job overview
We wish to appoint enthusiastic individuals to join our Learning Support Team to play a key role in supporting Class Teachers in the teaching and welfare of student development. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dedicated and nurturing team in supporting learning, progress and attainment within the classroom. The role will be based in Reception and Key Stage 1, however you may be asked to work across all Primary Phases.
The successful candidates will be positive, flexible and nurturing and be able to build and maintain good relationships with students, staff and parents/carers. You will have a willingness to learn new skills and be able to adapt to support the needs of the children.
Prendergast Primary School is part of Prendergast Ladywell School, an all-through school from EYFS to Year 11. The primary phase benefits from a purpose built primary building, as well as a stunning outdoor space which includes specifically designed play areas for Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, as well as the school's own Nature Reserve. The school is fortunate to be one of the only primary schools in Lewisham to have its own Teaching Kitchen classroom.
Being part of a successful Federation of Schools, located in easy travelling distance of each other, enables the schools to support each other and share best practice and resources. It also enables the Federation to offer staff the opportunity to develop their career as we are committed to developing and promoting from within wherever possible.
We offer a comprehensive and supportive induction programme for all new staff. You will also have access to a rich and varied CPD programme within the school and across the Federation.
We are dedicated to creating a work environment that our colleagues can enjoy, our students can benefit from, and where work complements life. For this reason, we encourage everyone to discuss with us their flexible working requirements during the recruitment process so that we can find the best working solution for them and their role.
Salary: Scale 3, (Points 5-6) £30,120 - £30,552 pro-rata
Hours: 30 hours a week, 39 weeks a year (term time only + Inset Days)

Our wonderful site is located right next to Ladywell Fields and includes a purpose-built primary building, and a stunning outdoor space, including specifically designed play areas for Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Our pupils also learn and have fun in our Nature Reserve and multi-use games area, enjoying regular and extended time outdoors, throughout the year.
We are part of an 'all-through’ school up to age 16, with our secondary phase situated in a separate building, next to the primary. As part of the Leathersellers Federation, we are also fortunate to be affiliated with Prendergast School, at Hilly Fields where Sixth Form provision is situated.
In our most recent Ofsted inspection, our Early Years provision gained an Outstanding judgement, and we were particularly praised for the positive links that we make with our families; this is something that we have continued to nurture, as we are well aware of the positive impacts of the home-school relationship on pupil outcomes. We actively encourage parents to be closely involved in their child’s education.
At Prendergast Primary, children and creativity are at the centre of everything we do; our aim is to provide a stimulating learning environment in which children are excited to learn and are given the confidence to achieve their potential. Children are invited to solve problems, reflect on their feelings and learning, and create their own learning journeys. We believe that every pupil can and will Achieve Excellence; in fact it’s the motto on our school crest. Our curriculum is varied and challenging and aims to represent our diverse and rich community.
We are a school that CARES; where Community, Ambition, Resilience, Effort, and Success are valued. We have a dedicated staff team who are committed to achieving the very best for each child within our care. The Prendergast Primary Counselling Service and our Share & Care system are just some of the ways we recognise the importance of mental health and support the wellbeing of our school community.
The opportunity we have, as Co-Heads, to jointly lead the Prendergast Primary is an apt example of the flexibility and forward-thinking approach of our Federation. We feel delighted that our shared leadership is both beneficial to us personally and supports the development of our school. We are Stronger Together; we contribute to and benefit from the collaboration and support of the Leathersellers' Federation Vision and Values
