Westonbirt School are looking to recruit a Leisure Centre Manager, who will be responsible for the day to day operational management of the Sports Centre service standards, cleanliness, health and safety, line management of staff and business development in order to generate additional income.

Reporting to: Operations Manager


Hours, Salary & Benefits:

Hours: Full time, permanent position. 37.5 hours per week. This role includes working some evenings and weekends.

Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 depending on qualifications and experience

Job Description:

Line Management:

  • Manage and co-ordinate the work of all Sports Centre employees
  • Undertake staff appraisals for all Sports Centre employees
  • Undertake all necessary line management duties, such as holiday approval, sickness procedures, staff training needs etc.
  • Provide for necessary cover and ensure all facilities are staffed in accordance with the minimum requirement.
  • Participate in staff training programmes as required.
  • Co-ordinate the provision of staff training programmes as required.


Administration:

  • The management of the facility booking system ensuring that all records are maintained accurately, including facility hire and programmes, ensuring year round continuity.
  • Providing details to the finance department for invoicing and cash reconciliation.
  • The management of all records relating to the activity that takes place within the designated facilities, ensuring all records are of an appropriate standard for audit purposes.
  • Effectively promote and market the Sports Centre, working with Marketing Department to provide range of promotional materials.
  • Daily cash up of the till and security of monies received in accordance with the procedure detailed in the NOP


Health and Safety/Compliance:

  • Manage the Health and Safety Policy within the context of the Sports Centre and its programmes, working with the Operations Manager, ensuring that all documentation is up to date
  • Awareness and duty performance in accordance with the processes and procedures detailed in the Normal Operating Procedures, Emergency Action Plan and Specific Incident Management Pack.
  • Promote and perform a working environment that is in accordance with detailed Risk Assessments, highlighting areas of improvement or concern at the earliest opportunity
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Swimming Pool environment. Adhering to all recommendations outlined in the documents Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pool and PAWTAG.
  • Understand, and apply whenever necessary, the Sports Centre Emergency Action Plan, including procedures in respect of COSHH, RIDDOR, accidents/incidents and evacuation
  • Promote and provide an environment that is clean, safe and comfortable for members, guests and visitors to Westonbirt Sports Centre
  • Manage the programme of maintenance necessary to ensure the safe condition of all equipment


Provision of Service:

  • Operational management of the Sports Centre and its facilities
  • Monitoring access to all sports facilities, providing adequate safety to the sports estate, equipment, staff and users.
  • Dealing effectively and efficiently with customers including any complaints.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade as specified by the Operations Manager
  • Liaise with other staff regarding timetabled requirements for Sports Centre usage


Person Specification:

Essential

  • Experience in the leisure industry
  • Knowledge of health and safety with experience of risk assessments, maintenance and safety inspections of equipment and facilities.
  • Experience in handling supervisory/management tasks, such as recruitment, interviews, performance reviews, delegating, and problem resolution
  • A high awareness of industry developments, new activities, trends and research.
  • Confident communicator at all levels.
  • Evidence of success as an individual and as part of a team,
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • RLSS lifeguard qualification holder
  • Must be willing to work shifts and a 7day rota


Desirable

  • First Aid at Work Qualification
  • Holder of Pool Plant certificate
  • Swim England Level 2 Qualification
  • Qualified to GCSE / A Level standard
  • Evidence and investment in personal development

Founded in 1928, Westonbirt School is a secondary school with a sixth form for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18. There are currently around 500 pupils enrolled at the school. It is situated on 210 acres of land in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. The school has a thriving boarding community. Pupil numbers have grown rapidly since the transition to full co-education in September 2019. A whole site development masterplan is in place which has seen significant investment in new teaching spaces, boarding accommodation, sports facilities and infrastructure.
