The Role

The Marketing & Communications Executive is responsible for the delivery of successful targeted communications and marketing activity in accordance with the School’s overall communications and marketing objectives. Working with the Director of External Relations, the post holder will act as an ambassador for the school and aim to maximise positive brand awareness and influence prospective parents and pupils to consider Kingham Hill as a preferred choice of school. 

This is an ideal position for a candidate with previous marketing experience who wishes to be involved in a professional and busy school community. The role requires excellent organisational skills and the ability to work simultaneously on several projects. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in social media and PR, be an enthusiastic professional, and have the ability to easily build relationships with internal and external colleagues.


Responsibilities:

General 

  • Plan and implement comprehensive marketing initiatives that align with School objectives, contributing to the marketing strategy.
  • Produce regular reports on all aspects of the marketing programme, including website traffic statistics and campaign responses in order to inform planning and assess the effectiveness of the school’s strategies.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of competitor schools and the educational opportunities available in order to be able to confidently communicate the KHS difference.
  • Generate high-quality content for marketing and admissions collateral, collaborating with external designers and agencies when necessary.
  • Assist the Director of External Relations in the implementation of any market research projects (including pupil/parent/staff satisfaction surveys).
  • Maintain an up-to-date Department stock list.
  • Assist with the marketing of the school’s commercial activities and recruitment advertising.
  • To attend school activities, collecting content as required for promotional materials/marketing activities.


Press, Media & Advertising

  • Ensure good and effective press coverage, including identifying opportunities for stories and events, obtaining feedback about such events from those who have been responsible for them, preparation of press releases, regular liaison with local and national press, and co-ordination of copy production for marketing supplements, etc. 
  • Maintain, review and update the School’s website with clear, engaging and accessible material that is consistent with the School’s communication and marketing messages, targeted appropriately to stakeholder groups.
  • Manage the School’s digital communication channels, including social media platforms, ensuring the content is fresh, relevant, accurate and brand compliant.
  • Plan and implement an annual calendar of social media posts.
  • Develop the Trust’s online marketing where appropriate and keep abreast of, and capitalise on, digital/electronic initiatives.
  • Photograph/film key events in the School calendar and liaise with pupils and staff to gather the relevant details for the website, School publications, press releases and other promotional material. 
  • The maintenance and management of a well-catalogued media library, for promotional use. This includes keeping an up-to-date record of parental image consents and arranging any professional photoshoots as and when required.
  • Develop the School’s use of film in order to promote the School on the website or via other means.
  • Plan and implement the school’s annual advertising schedule (incorporating print and online) to a budget set by the Director of External Relations. 
  • Manage and enhance the school’s profile in external guides and on websites.


Publications

  • Work with the Director of External Relations with regards to the development and production of the School prospectus and any other promotional publications including, but not limited to, course guides, admissions booklets and the termly magazines. 
  • Assist with the design and production of materials for school activities such as flyers, tickets and programmes for events, as required and in conjunction with the Director of External Relations.
  • Produce and distribute the weekly school newsletter for parents – The Beacon.


Branding

  • Ensure that internal communications messaging and branding remain consistent across all platforms, aligning seamlessly with external communication messaging.
  • Be the guardian of the School’s visual identity and logo by developing an appropriate policy and monitoring its implementation, in keeping with the agreed and desired image and positioning of the School.


Internal communication

  • Support all staff with expert advice and assistance, where necessary, on projects which have a direct impact on the School’s reputation and image including attendance at events where required. 
  • Continually promote the need for marketing and customer-oriented approaches in all aspects of the School’s operations and help to ensure that all staff feel informed of, and involved in, the School’s marketing programme.

Kingham Hill is a thriving, independent, co-educational, boarding and day school of approximately 350 pupils between the ages of 11 and 18. There are twelve Houses, eight for boarders and four for day pupils.  Pupils are very well known and supported individually in relation to their academic progress and personal development. Recent capital developments include a new Library, Science & Mathematics building, Sports Centre, and Theatre.

Entry to the School is normally at 11+, 13+ and into the Sixth Form. There is a clear academic emphasis throughout the School and the formal curriculum includes an extensive range of subjects at GCSE and A level with the great majority of pupils going on to universities in the UK. The School also offers BTECS and CTechs.  Value-added scores in public examinations are among the highest both regionally and nationally.  Alongside the academic curriculum, there are extensive sporting and co-curricular programmes.

The School is one of only two accredited schools in the UK that are able to offer the American High School Diploma alongside a traditional British education.
