Maths at Rutlish

OUR AIMS:

To ensure that all students have the opportunity to make the best possible progress from their starting points in Mathematics.

All students are taught in sets that match their ability. Our teaching style is traditional with staff being encouraged to experiment with what works for them.

All students should feel that Mathematics is a subject for them. We pride ourselves on making Mathematics accessible to all. Links with everyday life are made throughout our teaching.

 OUTCOMES:

The Mathematics Department enjoys fantastic outcomes at both GCSE and A Level. We are the most popular subject in the 6th Form with over a hundred students studying A Level Maths. We also have over thirty students studying Further Maths A Level in our 6th Form.

We run games and mathematics-based clubs for all students and encourage those who are interested to take part in the UKMT Mathematics challenges. Over a hundred and twenty students took part in the last Junior Mathematics Challenge.

 FACILITIES:

All classrooms are fitted with electronic whiteboards. Students at all key stages have electronic access to their text books and the Schools subscribes to Mymaths. Homework is set on Microsoft Teams and any remote learning is also facilitated through Teams.
