United Learning is a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life-changing education to children and young people across England.

Central Office staff work closely with schools, offering a wealth of expertise to underpin schools' own knowledge. Our specialist departments, including HR, finance, technology, strategy and performance, estates, and marketing, work alongside dedicated school improvement teams. By joining us, you will provide ongoing support to schools, ultimately improving the outcomes of our pupils.

United Learning is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All positions are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and shortlisted candidates will be subject to an online check.

We always appoint on merit, and we are open to discussing flexible working options.

The Role

As Maths Subject Adviser for our extensive portfolio of Secondary Academies (50+) you will embody our ethos of bringing out ’the best in everyone’. Leading subject specific improvement, you and your highly skilled colleagues will support departments to raise standards in maths and improve progress and attainment, working effectively with our existing team of advisers and curriculum writers (in maths as well as other subjects).

Our Secondary Education Team is at the heart of our school improvement strategy. Working collaboratively with Heads of Department and their teams you will make a difference to thousands of students’ lives by:

  • Supporting our Secondary Academies across the Trust (primarily in the north: Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire) to raise standards in maths in all year groups.
  • Visiting schools to provide guidance and feedback to teachers, subject leaders and school leaders. This will include supporting schools with tier of entry decisions and effective exam preparation.
  • Building the capacity of leaders and teachers including trainees and ECTs.
  • Developing resources to support the effective teaching and assessment of maths throughout our schools, based on the United Learning curriculum.

Practicalities

The role will be predominantly field-based, with substantial travel to our schools across the country, primarily those in the north - we have academies in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, South Yorkshire and Carlisle. However, home-working is also a core element of the role, and we envisage a broadly 60%-40% split between the two, with considerable autonomy in determining when and where school visits take place. There will also be times when you will need to travel to our main office locations in London or Peterborough, and to other schools in the Trust as required.

United Learning is committed to encouraging and enabling flexible working opportunities throughout our schools and Central Office, and we will accept applications from those preferring a part-time role. Please state your preference in your application.

There is flexibility around the start date, in line with typical notice periods in teaching.

Rewards and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary.
  • Contributory pension scheme.
  • School Holidays.
  • Occupational sick pay, protecting you and your family.
  • Competitive maternity, paternity, and adoption benefits.
  • Group Life Insurance Scheme.
  • Extensive range of employee benefits through our partner Perkbox.
  • Westfield Health cash plan for eligible staff.
  • Continuous Professional Development options that will be tailored to your needs.
  • A supportive team across the country.

We are open to requests for flexible or part-time working and we encourage open and regular conversations about work-life balance.

The Recruitment Process

The online application form asks for education and employment history and a personal statement. In this statement, please outline your suitability for the role.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview weeks commencing 2nd and 9th December.

United Learning is a large, and growing, group of schools, across both primary and secondary phases, and the state and independent sectors. We aim to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our teachers are passionate about their work. We know that teaching can be a tough profession, but with the right support and a commitment to seeing the best in each other, we work tirelessly to find creative ways to educate. By working as a team, we can achieve more together by sharing than any single teacher, department or school could alone. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed.

To produce the best learning experiences for our pupils, we believe it’s essential to enhance the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) capabilities of both teachers and support staff, and our range of programmes, facilitated by the United Learning Institute support your to develop and progress within your career.

Our rewards and wellbeing programmes help us show we care about you. We're working with experts in the field to introduce a Group-wide wellbeing programme to support you every day, and every academy offers at least eight INSET days per academic year, with three solely dedicated to planning. Additionally, you can access a range of flexible benefits that suit your lifestyle, from reduced childcare costs and gym memberships, to cycle to work and health programmes, hundreds of retail discounts, and many more.

Teaching is a challenging – yet fantastic – profession. It takes a dedicated practitioner with a solid team of support staff behind them to make a real difference to a child’s life.

That’s why we believe so passionately in the power of sharing. When everyone is working together towards the same goal, we enrich life for every member of staff. Our pupils can expect an outstanding education from a committed team of practitioners that share one core value – to see children and young people achieve their full potential. It's an ethos we call the best in everyone’.

It’s a challenging brief, but one that we’re meeting with a skilled workforce who are supported every step of the way.
