ACS International Schools are recruiting a one to one part timeTeaching Assistant to join the team at ACS International School Cobham.

The Teaching Assistant will provide one to one support to one student within Grade 6 (Year 7/age 11-12) for 25 hours per week during term time. 

The TA will work closely with the SENCO and Student Support Department and be guided by their and class teachers' instructions. This role is to support the student by promoting and reinforcing their self-esteem and encouraging the student to maximise their achievement and development. They will work to establish a supportive relationship with the parents concerned, to facilitate effective communication and partnership between school and home environments. Encouragement, acceptance and inclusion of the student is vital to support achievement and development.

Key responsibilities:

  • To undertake activities with the student to facilitate their physical, emotional and educational development within a safe environment, under the supervision of a classroom teacher
  • Attend classes with the student and support their learning
  • Plan and prepare lessons in collaboration with subject teachers and SEND Student Services Department Specialists, including evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans
  • Develop and prepare resources for learning activities in accordance with lesson plans and in response to the student's needs
  • Motivate and progress student’s learning by using clearly structured, interesting teaching and learning activities
  • Promote and support student inclusion with learning activities
  • Be aware of and support differences, ensuring all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  • Support the student to gain independence, allowing them to achieve their academic potential
  • Assist in maintaining good discipline of student throughout the school day. To accompany and supervise student on planned educational visits and journeys
  • To ensure the student complies with relevant school policies and procedures to ensure the individual/s involved understand expectations
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, SEND Department Head.
  • To apply knowledge & understanding of the IB Curriculum.


Knowledge and skills required:

Essential:

  • GCSE (A-C) or NVQ Level 2 in numeracy & literacy
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) for supporting and teaching & learning in school
  • Experience of supporting children with difficulties in reading, writing and interaction with others
  • Proven ability to be proactive, approachable, empathetic, organised, highly visible and confident, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Observe confidentially
  • Ability to work in teams in a variety of circumstances, and to accept change with flexibility
  • To apply good organisational and time management skills
  • To apply effective oral and written communication skills.


Desired:

  • Knowledge of the IB curriculum
  • Experience working alongside specialist therapists/external providers
  • Knowledge of adolescent concerns and current information sources.


Specific role details:

  • Term time, Monday - Friday (hours to be confirmed based on the student’s timetable)
  • Start date: August 2024
  • Duration: 1 year
  • Closing date: 14th June 2024.
